Thanks Brian! do you know if the VQ30 block is a lot weaker than the VQ35? Let´s say the early version.brianw wrote:Depends which version of the VQ35DE you're looking at. The Pathfinder VQ35DE is very similar to the Maxima/I30 VQ30DE; same timing hardware (adds VTC tho), same shape of the intake manifold ports, etc.
The `02+ Altima/Maxima and `03 350Z/G35/whatever applications use different heads, and the castings between the FWD and RWD blocks are different to account for differences in the motor mount positioning; they're similar otherwise.
The VQ35DE is a significantly (but not drastically) different motor.
I now the VQ35 is a crazy good engine and wanted to know if the 30 is close in design. The VQ30 is much cheaper and would be nice if they had the same heads and block.95prmax wrote:what are you looking to do with a vq30de or a vq35de???
Where in the **** are you getting 400whp-500whp? Unless you want 2hours of engine life thats STUPID. Or if your very lucky u might get a few runs outa it.brianw wrote:No, they're pretty much the same. Both engines are good to 400~500whp with stock internals, although above 400whp you're getting pretty vulnerable to any detonation, temperature, or oil pressure problems grenading your engine.
The blocks on both are pretty strong and are good to more than 500whp, probably more than 600whp-- at least in the VQ35DE, which isn't quite as strong as the VQ30DE-- but that's a guess. Quite a few VQ35DE's out there have the snot boosted out of them, unlike the VQ30DE, so the information base is much larger.

Hey Mike, the VQ30 is a great engine (was on Wards 10-best list each year until the VQ35 replaced it). There are numerous people boosting these without any major issues which included one of our members with >500hp in a 4ht-gen Maxima (stock internals and even stock injectors). Most lack a variable intake, but that can be solved via a MEVI or grabbing one off a vehicle that had it (From a Maxima perspective, the '01 Max had variable intake)
