IMHO its not worth the time, money, and headaches. you gain some HP from it but the HP/$ is not worth it in this matter. you have to change out the upper and lower intake manifolds, the ECU, and god knows what else. the more simple version would be to get a MEVI (middle east variable intake). this setup allows you to us a VTEC controller to run the vacuum vs the ECU. still pricey and not worth it IMO.

if you want to get more power, upgrade your air intake, get headers and a bolt on exhaust. maybe add an unorthodox racing pulley. i did these mods to my maxima and gained 18 HP for just under $1,000.

You dont have to swap the ecu at all . You can run whatever ecu you man. Now to get the most out of it you will need a JWT ecu with rev extender. You can get a vafc or safc neo to control it also.

Not to discourage you, but I personally wouldn't do the VQ35DE Swap.

The extra 75 HP is nice, but you'll be running into a lot of head aches if you do it yourself.

If you have a few grand and some expert help, then it might be worth it, but I don't think this is a DIY swap with a few craftsman tools.

If your state doesn't have the emissions regulations, I would go with a y-pipe, intake, and some light weight rims. That should gain you around 25 hp and better acceleration for around $1000-$1500 vs the $500-$1000 for the engine, an ecu, and the time for labor. You'll also have to probably have to beef up the transmission or swap it with a 6th gen too.

For 2500 i know someone that will do the swap for you and its worth every penny. I plan to do it to my turbo car soon. I just want to up the boost on my blown car first.

well now that all the nay sayers and others got their comment in, the answer to the OP's question is that it's not hard at all. as a matter of fact, lots of 4th gen owners do it. PM me for links to do the install. the required parts to complete the swap would be:

5th Gen UIM
5th Gen TB/IACV
EGR Delete
4th Gen Fuel Rail/Injectors
4th Gen LIM
Summit RPM Swtich.

no ECU modifications necessary because the VIAS is mechanical and not electrical.

now a VQ35DE swap is a VERY labor intesive and detailed project and it is suggested that you have another car to drive around while you complete the process (not to mention an xtra dose of sanity)
..and besides, i could be wrong, but they are only a couple handfulls of max's that have done the VQ35 swap , if not less.

Hey I realize the last post is from 4 years ago, but I'm about to do a swap soon and could use the links you were mentioning. I wanted to go the 3.5 route but not enough money or available downtime, I've read elsewhere that the de-k just drops right in, only need to solder the clips for the injectors, any help would be appreciated as I'm still torn btwn swapping or resealing my de....again
