ok, so Im running a VQ30DE..

-124,7xx Miles-Sunoco 91 Premium / Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 10W-30-Automatic-New Plugs (Laser Plat Premium NGK) -New Fuel Filter-New PCV Valve-Idle Adjusted from 500RPM to 700-900RPM-Throttle Body was throughly cleaned..

When the car is at a full idle, even at normal operating temperature I hear a very rapid "tick tick tick" coming from what sounds like the center of the engine block. When I pull up on the throttle cable, the engine mutes It almost, but then soon as you let it go back to idle "tick tick tick" and Its fast too. I do not hear it from inside the car, only when Im outside of it.. or the hood is up and Its idling.

What could this possibly be, I don't want my motor to blow into smitherines when I just got her fixed.

Well try posting in the Vq 30de/tt section (300zx section)... that will yeild better info... but i think for the TTs the buying guide said to listen for a faint ticking (vq30dett) and if the tempo is smooth then they timing is good, but if its not then well the engine has timing issues... or somthing like that...

Light ticking at idle is considered normal for the VQ.Keep up regular maintenance and listen to see if it gets any louder. As you describe it, I wouldn't be concerned. If you start to find that the ticking doesn't fade with throttle, you may want to look into it further.

300zx has a VG30DETT, not VQ30DETT.There are no US-market turbo VQ variants.
