I searched and only found one thread on the subject. I'm an RB guy, but my boss is building a VQ30DE-T for his sand rail. I have the motor torn down on an engine stand, front covers off, valve covers... etc and I got to thinking might as well toss some cams in there since the chains are off. I found some JWT cams, but $1100 isn't too appetising. I know there are 4 cams, but still. Working for a shop having an account with JWT, I know he won't be paying $1100, but it's still not a cost effective mod at that price. There is going to be a T3/T4 turbo on there. Not sure on specs of it. Will only be run on race gas as well. Looking for @ 400hp. It's out of a 99 maxima. Any suggestions/advice if cams will be worthwhile or where to find them cheaper? Crower maybe? The more "insta-boost" we can get the better.

Hi Guy,Hey I have already built a VQ30 but with Twin Turbo T2.5 and dyno out around the 450hp at 12psi.I would say why change the cams.My motor is a stock junkyard motor.I am having problems with the cooling system. At high RPM 5-6K I am pushing the water out.Any solutions?

When you say "pushing the water out" what exactly do you mean?

well he didn't use any cams because we couldn't find anything in a timely manner. THe car is single turbo and see's boost at 1500 rpm. Makes nearly 400hp/400tq at the crank on 110octane 550cc injectors. Car is done now. Here is a picture...

If you want cams in your VQ30 just get VQ35 cams and you need a spacer with an offset hole to bring the cam timing back into spec. Maxima guys do it all the time.

The difference is just because the timing chain gears are different off sets or thicknesses and you need a simple adapter to make up the difference.

Alex is right on.

For best bang for buck, I'd get these. Many maxima and 350z owners have used them with good results
