I have a '91 300zx with a couple of thrown rods...

A friend found a shop that had a VQ and the guys at the shop said that the VQ and the VG were essentially the same engine, and offered to do the swap. I figured, well if they are basically the same engine fine, but I'll have a friend do the swap instead. But before going through with anything I've been doing a lot of searching online about the differences in the two engines. The only thing I have found is the fact that the VQ has a different bore x stroke, and is made for FWD Maximas.

From what I know/see the blocks look exactly the same. Is it possible to take the VG intake and exhaust manifolds and put them on the VQ to bring the intakes to the front and the exhaust piping towards the back of the engine rather then the sides of it?

Thanks

Any way to convert a '97 Maxima VQ into a RWD VQ? or is this not worth hacking?

I dunno..Just off the cuff:

It seems to me it should be so much easier to get a decent used VG3- RWD motor?

Think of all the electronic issues on top of the install problems.

May even need a standalone ECU which in itself cost more than a used VG30 I am sure..
