Any car can have any engine legally swapped into it (except diesels, and possibly hybrids) as long as its the same model year or newer motor and the stock Emission system is used. Also you would have to use the 350z harness (for OBDII)

Oh with the diesels and hybrids if the motor is offered for that make and model year vehicle it can be legally swapped aswell. Example: Chevy Silverado 3500 non diesel can have a diesel motor offered in the 3500 Diesels legally swapped. I assume same for hybrids like a Non Hybrid Civic can have the same year hybrid motor swapped (I know you don't care about diesel or hybrid but just wanted to clarify)

well i would agree with you but there is a flaw in what you said a 240sx and a rx-7 can both have an ls1 corvette engine put into them only the rx7 can get the motor legaly barred into the car because it can fit carb legal headers into the engine bay where ont he 240 you have to make custom headers or buy them from hensonsupercars.com but they dont make carb legal headers for the ls1 in a 240 yetso not anything can go into anything and you can cross breed. so anyone else wanna try and answer my question

damn good point about the headers! i never even wouldve thought about that. i believe that the stock exhaust manifolds are used when doing a vq swap, so in your theory about the header situation, that would be legal.

Not being able to fit CARB legal emission parts in a vehicle doesn't apply to my statement. ANY motor given the parameters can be LEGALLY swapped. If it can' fit then I guess yours Sh*t out of luck......Just means crazy fabrication might be necessary. If theres no possible way in the world for legal parts to fit doesn't mean that motors illegal to put in just means it's impossible for it to be legally done.

To clarify, from the states POV anything can go into anything (following the rules) if you can't get i to fit then it's your problem. I wasn't saying every motors possible, but if it can fit then it can be Bar'd

ok tim turbo just stop your sounding stupid right now cuz you just proved yourself wrong when your trying to make a point. any motor can go into anything we got that but unless you do it with CARB LEGAL parts its ILLEGAL for that car so your as long as it fits it can be barred is not true.

Your stupid read and pay attention and don't act like I'm an idiot.

You asked
slow-fourty wrote:can a 350z vq get barred into a s13?
I said yes, a 350z VQ can be barred into a s13, if it can fit with stock emissions. Then you brought up aftermarket CARB Legal parts in a situation that is irrevelant to yours.

Then you said
slow-fourty wrote:im just wondering if it is a legal swap into a 240

I said, Yes it is a legal swap into a 240 because the motor isn't older than the car. If it can fit in with Legal parts is another question.

So why don't you just ask what your really trying to say. Will a completely stock VQ fit in a s13 and retain all of it's stock emission system. If not are there CARB legal parts that can make the VQ fit into the engine bay and allow it to be bar'd as a legal engine swap?

You weren't very specific. I told you any motor can be a legal swap the way the laws written. The motor fitting is another question entirely.

another tidbit, due to the obd2, the gass tank and entire evap system has to be swapped over. also, curtain montors have to show up in order to pass, such as the cat monitors and the evap montors. to OP, yes, its possible to make legal. mind you, this means work. its not as easy to make this swap legal as it is to just do the swap itself.
