Hi, I'm doing my Sr swap real soon. So far I just got my motor and transmission. Well, I've already spent 2.3k for the Red-top motor, only about 1.2K is set aside for the parts. Now, as I read tons of discusion over the swap, fuel pump, downpipe and tachometer are must for the swap. So how about the a Cooling Fan? is it a must too? what brand and model would you go for? I've seen not much discussion over this. Also, the intercooler would be problematic to me because i always want to keep the cost low. I found a nice used Conquest intercooler that Yuri would suggest for $200. What do u guys think? Is it a good unit for our SR engine? Is it wise to do this way because the piping inself is not cheap i guess. Do you suggest me to go mandrel bend the piping in shop? or just mount the Custom pipes with some silicon hoses?Which way would would u suggest (considering im a poor College Boy)? Question again, a stupid one (a question only NA guys would ask)Can I run my SR with no IC if i simply don't boost the turbo for the time being? What Clutch do you prefer? a friend of mine said HKS is the best of all. But it's way too expensive for me. I might run the stock for a while b4 I have moore money. What BOV sounds the best? I know Greddy guys would say Greddy, Blitz guys would say Blitz and HKS guys....Anyway, Lemme know what you feel. For the wiring stuff, I think I'd leave it to Yuri. Damn, I just figured out there is way much more $$$ to spend for the swap! Thanks everyone for opinions!

any fan over 1900cfm's will sefice for a resonably cool location, if you live in a hot place, u might want two fans....i use a permacool fan, but there are many options, look at summit racing or something.

custom piping, unless done for a race setup, IMO looks pretty ugly, the welds and sh i t, but if u dont care about looks, then its an option...

i always suggest doing it right (even if u are a college boy), so u dont have to do it twice, ya know : )

no, you dont want to run your SR with no IC...(can u? yes, you can do anything, but u shouldnt)

I use, and will only use a full face iron clutch (clutch specialties in socal), other than that i recomment ACT, RPS, OS gilken, or HKS twin plate : )

BOV sound clips: http://www.alltrac.net/tuning/blowoffvalve.htmli think the HKS SS bov is one of the best for performance, if your worried more about sound, i dont know what to tell you....

dont expect to pay less than 7 grand for the swap

wait wait wait, i was under the impression that the sr20 dropped straight into the 240 but its all changing now. i already plan on upgrading fuel pump, injectors, ect to boost performance but what i need to know is what do i HAVE to buy or modify to get a s13 to go into an s13 gen 240? also is it better to use the sr20 transmission that comes with it or to make it fit the ka stock 240 transmission?? thanks for the help..

an s13 sr20det will basically drop right in...but that doesnt mean it will run like that, wiring is a big part of doing the swap, and it doesnt just 'plug' right in, it all has to be wired.

use the sr20det transmission...

yea i know about the wiring i was just worried about having to replace expensive parts to make it fit right and stuff like that. i was pretty sure u were supposed to but when i started getting into this stuff and even today people on ebay (theyre all crooks) talk about how u only need the engine and it bolts straight on to the stock transmission. i guess if u never ask ull never know.

I know hks offered a 6spd transmission upgrade on their sight, is that an upgrade for the 5spd to 6spd or and upgrade for their 6spd transmission for the s13?

It was a whole seperate 6-speed transmission made for racing and such. The pricetag on one would be too much for street use.

Nah, I wouldn't say that, doesn't everybody have 9,000 to drop on a transmission at any given time?

Id just use the stock SR transmission, no point in makig more work for yourself. The HKS (and other transmission upgrades like Jun) are the entire transmission including the bellhousing.

They have 5spd and 6spd racing trannys that are like 9000 but they also have something called a "MANUAL TRANSMISSION KIT FOR 6-SPD" for a little more than 1k, does anyone know what this kit is for?

It comes with links, levers, gears, etc. You have to open up the transmission and put in the gears and levers and all the hardware they gave. Bolt it all back together. Fill it up with gear oil. Start it and drive...oh yeah remember its going to be 6 gears :thinker that or its a repair/rebuild kit for THEIR 6 speed..either or pick one

Back to Parts.........If you have every thing needed to run the engine, i personally feel it would be best to get a front mount IC, nismo engine mounts, a hotpipe from HeavyThrottle, BOV, EZ install kit from HeavyThrottle, Maybe an electric fan kit, and maybe a new clutch depending on what condition the stock one is.

As far as the six gear transmission kit, its probably for s15 silvia trannys, they are 6 speed........

and if anyone really wants a stock sr20det transmission from a s15 I know where yah can get one :) ~$1,300Im pretty sure they bolt right up to any sr20 as long as you have the right size driveshaft.

yeah that's what I'm thinking that it's some kind of rebuild kit for their 6spd kit, but I'm trying to be optimistic and someone will tell me otherwise. Thanx for the response though.

Peace

The 6spd transmission upgrade is listed under s13 parts, so that's where the mystery lyes. But I'm definately interested in that s15 transmission I'll do some more research into that swap, can you send the info for the transmission? Thanx

Peace
