vortec v6 in 91 240sx what do you guys think

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

Well since its also rear sump and can be used with the exact same transmissions as your gen 1 350 it doesn't make much sense at all. Sounds like your on a budget, the 4.3 are nice when built with full forged internals, head work and boost..... but so is a V8. But that 4.3 is a 5.7 with less cylinders, so its a little shorter, but your still going to have to work around the steering rack and rear sump.

You can find the gen 3 truck motors for not bad in the 4.8 and 5.3 flavors, with an intake swap, oil pan swap its proven to fit.

Now you are going for the sake of the swap. If you want a daily driver that’s ok on gas and has more pep just swap with a SR, VG, VQ, CA or RB. Any odd swap such as a 3.8 GM is going to take some fabbing and the end result will be different, but not too cost effective and for the time spend and power output not worth it. I would either keep what you have, or do something that’s proven with the resources to do it.

Yeah you can pick them up for nothing on craigslist alot. Try to find a 4 bolt main and just rebuild it. Parts are cheap for them, and so many people make them. I know the local machine shop here cleans, decks, bores and assembles them for about 650. You can usually find a worn out one for 250 bucks and start from there.

Is it compatible with the V8 oil pans? If it isn't I would NOT consider it.

Ford's 302 isn't a bad idea either IMO. They are cheap and user friendly and have front sump pans available. A little header work and you'll be off to a good start.

This hang up on gas mileage is...well it's gay IMO. Sorry, either install a 4 banger or install something that will be fun. Swapping in a motor because the locals know how to work on it is not a very good reason. If you were to swap in a motor because you want to be different, then by all means...anything will be open. But gas mileage is bad motivation IMO.

On a side note, what about Chevy/Ford 4 Bangers? I've seen a few guys make pretty decent power with the SOHC Ford 4 banger and some boost. Those things are almost free...lol.
