So i just noticed this problem. When the rps in my truck go a lil high say 1500 to 2000 or higher my stereo cuts out. Im fairly sure its becasue of to high a voltage coming in. Basically i want to knwo if the 94 nissan d21 has an external voltage regulator or if it doesnt do i need to replace the entire alternator or can i jsut add one in?

Gettign ready for bed so there will be a delay in my answering anything. Thank you for your time.

Pretty sure it's in the alternator... I'd say the first step is to check the voltage with a multimeter while you rev the engine to confirm your thoughts on it being a voltage regulator.

The voltage regulator is internal. I would check the battery and the amperage with a meter. If the voltage is high the battery would boil over. If you look at the location of the radio antenna you will notice the end is exposed to the environment ,and when you rev up the engine the vibration can cause an intermediate failure in the stereo. Another issue is you could be dealing with a bad ground at the radio
