My question is about my volk racing rims. I would like to have the lips chome plated while leaving the centers powdercoated. My question is about taking them apart myself. Does anybody know if I unscrew them myself and have them refinished will I be able to screw them back together with no problem. I have asked a few shops about plating the lips and they say I need to take wheels apart they wont do it. So is there something I dont know that might happen by me taking them apart?

you can do it if you really want...but its not recommended

why do you want them chrome plated? they already come with a polished lip, just take 5 mins and shine that up

No shop other than the manufacturer will assume liability. And they have disclaimers for everything. The manufacturer is the only route. Each wheel maker will insist they are the only people qualified to take apart and put together again their multi piece wheel.

Wheels are packaged with warning labels for this very reason. So people won't unscrew their wheels thinking it's ok.

Our shop won't work on multipiece wheels if it even Looks like a kid took it apart and put it back together. Until it's no longer a sue happy society, the limitations and restrictions for what a shop will assume liability on will grow.

Would rather have them chromeplated. I found a shop that will take apart and chrome plate at a descent price. Thanks for the info.

What is difficult about it, I've never thought about it, but what is the harm in disassembling the wheel and reassembling it after paint? Isn't it as easy as evenly rescrewing the little bolts in and torqueing them down with some loc-tite?
