So, my wife complained for a couple of weeks how difficult it is to have the car select my phone number from the phone book.

This last weekend we did a 700 mile road trip, me doing most of the driving, while experimenting with the voice recog and Nav. Voice recognition was hit-or-miss, at best.

Today my wife drove the car again, and had to try at least 5 times before the car would call me.

Does the car 'learn', and if so, is it getting confused when multiple drivers are 'teaching' it?

Or am I giving the system too much credit, and it is just cr*p at recognizing what people are saying?

I came across a YouTube video showing how the voice recognition could be trained by doing some secret button presses, then saying a coupe of sentences to the system . Anybody familiar with this?

Never had this problem in the 2012 Altima... For either of us.

The secret button process can help with general voice commands. Additionally you can actually record a custom recognition sequence for phonebook entries. My wife has a hyphenated name wich can be difficult for voice recognition systems to understand...once I custom recorded the name I no longer had any issues.
