Hello all...hoping someone can shed some light on a weird situation. I have a 2008 nissan rogue with the voice recognition/bluetooth built-in. I have been using it flawlessly for the last 4 years. Last week the buttons decided to no longer respond when I press them nor connect to my phone, however, the strange part is that now they will work in the mornings when i go to work...but not the afternoon. I have tried to reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery but it has not helped. The car is out of warranty so I want to avoid taking it to the dealer unless I have to. Anybody have an idea about what could be happening?? Is there a radio/bluetooth reset procedure? Any help is appreciated...please and thank you.

How is the weather in the morning compared to the after noon?
What time does this happen? On the newer cars disconnecting the battery doesn't reset ecu. You have to disconnect it for along time to reset the ecu.

resetting the ecu wont help here. its the control panel on the steering wheel that needs replacing OR THE HEADUNIT TAKING A CRAP. electronics play a funny game when warm, cold, etc.

think about it: when things are cold = they contract. | when things are hot = they expand.
how ever that can hurt or help the contact patch of the metal switch, is up to the design, but it can have an effect.

get to the back of your headunit and try to see if the wiring harnesses got loose, or dont make contact. if that doesnt help, this swapping the head unit out for a different one.

i would buy this and do a quick swap: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-Rogue-AM ... ed&vxp=mtr
or this one is even cheaper: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NISSAN-ROGUE-20 ... 9a&vxp=mtr

and if you have the single disk: http://www.ebay.com/itm/08-Nissan-Rogue ... d5&vxp=mtr

My 08 Rogue just started with the exact same symptoms. I have the Bose radio. Some days, there is no response from the phone buttons. Sometimes the buttons will respond but will not sync with any phones.

I'm thinking of replacing the head unit with a used one. But before I buy that, is the more likely cause the head unit or the telephone power control unit?

if it wont pair the phone to the car its probably the telephone power control unit.

if the buttons on the steering wheel wont work - but everything else works, it could be the buttons on the steering wheel that need replacing.

its a tough call what it could actually be. might be a trial and error.

Sorry, I'm a little fuzzy on this. Are the buttons on the H/U not responding or do you have audio controls on the steering wheel and it's those that aren't responding? Either way it might simply be a loose connetion. You could try to beat the steering wheel like it owes you money.

Buttons on HU work fine for the radio. It is only the phone buttons on the steering wheel that stop. And my sync'd phone does not see the car as a device. So, I don't think it is a connection issue in the steering wheel (all the other radio buttons work fine).

It is like the phone part of the system is not yet started or off on some other planet. Sometimes the phone system will start responding and I can get into the setup menus but still no sync with the phone.

I was wondering if the "core" functions of the bluetooth are in the radio head unit or in the telephone power control unit (or worse, split between the two). Ideally, the core bluetooth electronics are separate from the head unit and the head unit just knows how to display the phone info and audio.

I'll see if I can find a telephone power control unit used and try that first.

Did you update your phone lately? There is a good chance that is due to the phone. Next time, when it is not responding, try turn off your phone and then re-start the phone. After the phone has estiblished the BT connection, try again to see if it works.

I replaced my telephone power control module from a ebay auction (a new one from the dealer is over $400!!!). FYI, this module is behind the rt qtr panel trim in the rear of the vehicle.

It worked.. kinda. I'm sure now my old unit was the cause.

The replacement module was from a 08 altima and was not an exact match on model number. It was the only one I could find ( really needed a 28383-JK60E). Junk yards must not keep this module around. The down side is there is about a 10 second for my phone to connect to it on a phone call. I blame this to the version mismatch. Voice rec works again, phone buttons work again.

I'll take a 28383-JK60E if someone wants to donate theirs to me :)

Well I searched 28383-JK60E and it's used in the Altima, Maxima, FX35 & FX50, BUT not Rogue. Nissan Parts Zone http://www.nissanpartszone.com lists two different numbers for Rogue, 28383-JK62B and 28383-JJ50B replaced by: 28383-JJ50D.
