Just got my M a few days ago. When I push the Voice recognition button, all I get are two beeps, and no recognition. Bluetooth phone functions work fine. I am waiting on a Nav disc from the dealer, so there is not one in the car at this time. I know you need the disc for Nav functions, but do you also need it for all of the other voice functions of the car? Didn't know if I should wait on the disc before I took it to the dealership.

I have this exact same problem with my 06 M35x! I also don't have the Nav disc. I didn't see a solution posted, and this post is a little old. Anybody have a solution?

The volume on the voice rec. could be all the way down, when u push the voice rec. button turn the radio knob up and then see what happens.

I'm pretty sure the VR system is on the DVD, also you might want to check this I know if you try to access the VR as soon as you start the car, it comes back and says something to the effect of "Please wait, downloading..."

INFINITI Voice Recognition will be activated when the system language is set toEnglish. If French is selected, INFINITI Voice Recognition will not operate whenthe TALK switch on the steering-wheel mounted controls is pushed.

Are you sure that the VR system is on the Nav DVD? I would think it is not, since the VR system is standard, but the Nav system is an option. If you have the Nav DVD, if you would check this out for me by removing the DVD and trying the VR system, I would appreciate that.

When I try to access the VR as soon as the car starts, I don't get the "downloading" message. Nothing seems to happen at all. I checked the language setting, and I cannot change the language - the "language selection" is grayed out. I assume the language is set to English, since all the menus are in English. The only setting under the Language/Units menu I can change is the units.

I tried turning up the volume knob, but no improvement.

I get just two beeps when I press the TALK switch on the steering wheel. The beeps do not seem to come through the audio system, but from the driver's dash area somewhere. When I push the VOICE switch on the console, there are no beeps, no activity whatsoever. The Bluetooth functions seem to work, in that I've tried it with a Bluetooth phone and it works both listening and talking.

I can't swear to it but I do know on my player in the glove box, it says "BlueToooth" so I'm thinking that even though Nav is not standard, Bluethooth is and perhaps the disc is different for a non-nav system. Perhaps someone without Nav can chirp in.

As to the system not saying "downloading", I would think if you do not have the disc, there would be nothing to download.

You are welcome.

FYI: I just checked my car, when you try to do VR as soon as you have power, the message I get is "Phonetic data download, please wait"
