Intersteing one here!

Have the VR systems and tried to pull up an address with in Toronto. I hit the VR system and selected destination address. I tired to speak the address name.

I was not able to select the Canada version of the database. Every time I spoke the province name "Ontario" the system failed to recognize it and on it's own selected Montana.

Any Canucks out there run into this issue or know how to solve it?

I have a 2008 M45X, which was the year they changed the GPS to a HD database. The HD system for 2008 and newer model years has both Canada and the US included in the one database. The 2006-2007 model years had a DVD-type data base. Check to see if the DVD you have covers both Canada and the US. I am not sure with NavTEQ for the Infiniti whether you needed two DVDs - one for the US and one for Canada. If so, you have to change them, depending on where you are driving. You can find the DVD unit for your GPS system in the glove compartment.

I may not be right on this, because I am going solely on memory; but check it out, because if I am right it is a simple fix. You can also always order an update from NavTEQ's website to get one that includes Canadian data and with more updated information.

If the DVD in your car does include Canada, then it may a problem of learning to work with or training the VR system. Sometimes it doesn't understand our Canadian accents! There is a section in the owner's manual that deals with this. Alternatively, I have sometimes found it useful to just slow down a little and enunciate each syllable, to be more easily understood. Pronounce the name like some stranger would, rather than the slurred version most locals use (e.g. Toe-ron-toe instead of Trawwna, or On-tare-i-o versus Ontaryo, or E-to-bi-coke, where the k is pronounced, rather than E-to-bi-co). Hope some of this will help solve your problem.

Good luck!

Yes I have the the latest version with the north american map system. I think the issue that I have is related to the the vr system not having a direct pathway to the nav system. I tried speaking slowly and when I said Ontario, it suggested that I wanted to go to Montana. Anyway, I guess I will have to live with. By the way infiniti support tells me that I need to speak American? What the hell language is American?

Non-sense I tell you...........thanks for the reply

IMPORTANT FOLLOW-UP UPDATE!

I have just ordered the 2013 NAVTEQ update and in exploring the FAQs on the website, may have found the reason why merlinq2 was having the problem he experienced.

Apparently the DVD Nav system in the 2006-7 model year Ms includes maps for both the US and Canada, but the voice recognition (VR) system only works for the US! If that's true, it's really strange. That would explain why he kept getting Montana when he tried to input Ontario. On the other hand, the HDD Nav system in the 2008-10 model year Ms allows VR commands for both Canada and the US. Which explains why my car accepted the VR commands for Canada, and his did not. I assume that you can still use the touch screen and controller to enter locations for Canada, just not access it with the VR system.

Also, I noticed that the maps in the 2006-7 cars include only Canada and the 48 contiguous US states. The maps in the 2008-10 cars apparently include Canada and all of the US, including Alaska and Hawaii. None of them include maps for Mexico.

Not that I will be taking my M anytime soon to either Alaska or Hawaii! While both are beautiful states, and this is an important feature for those forum members living in those two states, the shipping to Hawaii would be way too expensive and the roads to Alaska are too brutal to subject my M to them!
