Are there any ways to test the 240 to see if it has a VLSD?

I checked around, and I saw the wheel spinning concept/ idea, but I have no idea what it all means! If someone can translate it all that'd be great!

Just crank the wheel, mash the accelerator, and count the skid marks. If you have two, then you have a LSD, if one, then you don't.

Thanks,Mike

easiest way is to poke ur head down there and look at it.. if it has a big orange sticker on it then its vlsd for sure, if not most likely open unless its worn off or something

the sticker is the best way to tell.

but then you end up with guys like me who put a VLSD unit in an open diff carrier, so they don't have the sticker.

The wheel spin concept works like this:jack the rear of the car up and put the car in neutral. An open diff car will spin the tires in opposite directions. It's all in how the gears are cut inside the unit.

If the car has a VLSD, they'll spin the same direction.

That and if it is an S13, then the car could be pushing as much as 14 years old. That is alot of time for a sticker to fall off.

Is there any way to off the VIN number. I know a friend who has a 90's s13 SE HB that is WRECKED. It is in his backyard and I can only jack up one of the rear tires. how can I check for VLSD. I can jack up the passenger rear end. what way should the wheel turn if I turn the driveshaft?

look at the VIN plate in the engine bay. if there are 4 dashes on the end, you have an open diff. if there are all numbers, u have VLSD

What happens when one wheel spins, and the other doesnt spin? is it still considered an open diff?

For your intents and purposes, yes. A differential that doesn't get power to both wheels is worthless, either open or limited slip.
