So you are asking if a 240sx VLSD will fit into a 240sx that has an open diff? Yes.

the VLSD is out of a hicas 240. the cover for the back of the diff is a different shape and the VLSD has a plug on it that the regualr open diff doesnt have i was curious what this was.

well its pretty common knowledge that any vlsd you find is going to have a lot of miles on it and they don't last forever. you may buy one that has already crapped out or will crap out very soon. the odds are definitely against you.

you would be better off buying a clutch-type or helical, depending on what you are using the car for.

but if you want to buy a used vlsd, you can usually find them in j30s or more rarely HICAS 240s for anywhere between $50 and $200.

hope that answered all your questions.
