what are the different ratios available for vlsd's and which would be the best for a street occasional strip car?

The LSD doesn't typically determine the ratio on vicsous LSD's. The ring gear and pinion gear do that. The ring bolts onto the LSD carrier.

S13/14 VLSD is 4.0836, whereas the J30 VLSD is 3.917. I have the J30 VLSD in my S13 and don't really sense the difference in gear ratios.

i think that possibly some of the j30's have the same gear ratio as the s13, because the one i put in mine doesnt seem to have any speed increase when in 5th at 3000... its still about 80, or it might have been3500. been a while since i tried it, but when i did it the results were the same before and after the swap

it depends on the car you're using as the donor car for the VLSD. As long as it used an R200V, you can swap the ring gears all you want. But say you land an R220V out of a turbo Z32, you'll be stuck with the Z's gearing.

Z32's have R230s

But yep, Bart's right they are interchangeable. I'd keep the 4.08
