I have a 1990 S13 and recently put in a VLSD that I shimmed. On the bench the longer of the two output shaft goes in but when installed into the case does not. Everything is aligned properly and there is no damage to the output shaft. I have searched (Google and NICO + More) high and low before buying the diff to make sure I had the proper parts. Thanks for the help.

bump

i'm having the same issue. i bought a j30 diff (just diff internals, no diff casing/output shafts) and i was told all i had to do was swap the j30 vlsd in place of my s13 open diff. i got the vlsd in and my stock s13 output shafts are too long on one side. i guess i need another short output shaft...

Your stock shafts are designed for an open diff. You need VLSD output shafts.
