I'd like some info. My 2000 Max SE Auto is for warranty work on the transmission.:sad The service writer is almost ready to put a new/rebuilt transmission in. I would like to put a transmission in with a VLSD, like out of a I30t. I would pay the difference + new axles (i understand that I30t requires diff axles, not sure why? probably shorter and larger diameter shafts). I think it needs to be a 2000/2001 to fit a VQ ... But, Is everything else same same as to bolt right up?? I would hope the mech could figure all this out. That is if the Service could get approval from Nissan, And, I think should, because it is all Nissan, right ?? Any thought or more info would help ...

Well you just slid in past the 4th gen mark and into the 5th gen era with the 2000. I'm not sure how much the transmission changed with the 5th gens if any at all, but I'll give ya what I know for the 4th gen.All I30t's have VLSD. It came as part of the "Heated Seat Package" I have know idea how VLSD is part of heated seats but whatever. You can check your transmission to see if there is a "V" at the end of the transmission code. Located next to the firewall. If so this means your Max already has VLSD. But if not you will need a drivers side axle from a transmission with VLSD. Then like you said everything else should bolt right up.Repeating from memory, I believe all Canadian I30's (t model or not) came with a quaife differential. Not sure why, but that is what I've heard.Good luck getting a Nissan dealer to do that work for you. It's against their policy to do so.

the engines of the 4th and 5th gens are the same. therefore they will bolt right up. the thing is the 6spd transmission from a vq35 won't bolt with a vq30.

you can check with Hal from http://www.hlh0501.com:cool:
