I'm planning on buying a vlsd (no im not going to save just a little more for a kaaz or nismo). So I have 2 choices pretty much, either get the vlsd from a hicas ABS 240 in a junkyard here (for $300), or get a jdm one from california for $300 from a reputable company. Only people that have done a vlsd swap should vote. thanks.

maybe no one has a vsld here.....but the better deal seems to be the one from the company in california. If you get something form the junkyard, you can't take it back it it doesnt work. (can you?)

JDM 180sx VLSD is always better because you get 5 bolt flanges with shafts that are 2mm thicker than 240sx shafts.

The downside is, the shafts are somewhat rare, so don't ruin them.

PHASE 2 had them in stock for some time, but now I see they are sold out! I ordered the VLSD and shafts for spares, it was $350

if you want the thicker axle, a set of J30 axles will do as well. I believe they are identical to the SR S13 axles.

Side note. The CA S13 axles are the exact same as ours. Same thickness and same bolt pattern for the output shafts.

Choose carefully as the J30 5bolt use an extra length of the shaft where the bearing meets the shaft.

Take note of the $800 shaft on the right and it's extended portion just behind the splines

$800 dollar shaft on the right? Please tell me you meant $80, which is still to much. I use the J30 diff w/ J30 axles, no problem and I love it.

$800 for a factory axle isnt uncommon, but saying $80 is too much for even a reman shows your ignorance

$800 is a round number. It was like $823 for the left side J30 shaft shown... $600something at wholesale..

I paid $385 for a 180sx VLSD and 5bolt shafts with 4.36 gears from ebay.

I paid $350 for 180sx 4.08 VLSD with 5bolt shafts from Phase2.

I paid $25 for a single 180sx left side shaft that a friend found locally for me.

There's nothing like fresh pizza; there's nothing like new half shafts.

Thats right if you get the JDM diff , it won't bolt up to your USDM axles , and half shafts are $180 each from Nissan. Trust me I know. I also have the part no. somewhere. Also they are both the same , internally anyway. Unless the jdm one is of the 300zxTT type. Then the gearing would be different. Also note that the US diff is less likely to have been beat on thanks to the KA variant engine.

CA18DET cars have 6 bolt axles, SR cars have 5 bolt

So I have a super-hicas s13, I also have a lsd from a ca18det silvia sitting in my garage. Perhaps I should try the ca18det lsd on my super hicas car? (once its running)

I put a z32 lsd on my wife's car. j30 axles. Got the axles for $35 each from a junkyard in Arkansas over the internet.

My long side j30 axle looked exactly like the one in the picture and it was 61 dollars from main auto parts. Had the extra length and all. Works like a champ. My J30 lsd breakaway way pretty hard to do by hand, I am sure it is the 70lb that everyone speaks of.

Thats the place that sells JDM VLSDs for $300 shipped, Dookie got his from there. They are located in California and will install it for you if you live there.
