Hello ladies and gentleman...I am a new poster and new member here...I have owned a 1996 Nissan Maxima and currently own a 2002 Q45 and two other vehicles that are not Nissan...I have a question about the above two engines. I currently also own a 2012 Lexus ISF. Great car. But there are things that I DO NOT like about it as with any car really however few they are. Are there any people that can chime in on these two engines? Without being biased towards Infiniti? The engine in my Q is a great engine and actually sold my GS400 for this car and never looked back eventhough they were two different cars really. Thank you in advance.

I can only speak from experience regarding the VK56VD. Speaking from a sample of 1, do not like this engine. There is too much electronic stuff on this engine and transmission resulting in a different driving experience every time you drive it. Sometimes you love it other times you hate it. The VK56VD seems to pull a good amount of oil into the intake through the pcv system. Because this engine has direct injection, these deposits cannot be cleaned by quality fuel or fuel additives. The intake valves can only be cleaned by removing the intake. I bought an M56x with 15k miles on it in 2016. At 20k miles I removed the intake to check the valves after having the dealer perform their induction cleaning service. The valve stems were approximately 1/4” to 5/16” in diameter. With the carbon deposits some were approximately 5/8” to 3/4” in diameter. The tailpipes on my car were always very sooty as if it ran really rich. It was worse than turbo cars I had in the past. I traded my M56x in after about 16 months of ownership at about 27k miles. Between the engine and transmission, I would not recommend this car. Other folks on here love them. Maybe mine was a lemon. Maybe the UpRev software makes these run more smoothly and cleanly.

Thanks for the reply. The early ISF had some teething issues for sure.. but being able to switch from direct to port helps eliminate carbon buildup...The ISF motor is bad a**...I just didn't know if it was like comparing the rather primative 1UZ to the VK45..where the VK had a good bottom end but a better top end than Lexus...and more technology...

A friend of mine had a '02 Q45, the motor has a great bottom end and food acceleration. That being said
My M56 motor is great so far, I just pasted the year mark and they're are definite pro's and cons. The pro is an awesome low end torque and it pulls real hard that being said it seams the electronics get in the way. I really do enjoy the car and I do think there are some better than others within the same model.

It always is a crap shoot reguarless with brand.

My experience with the VK56VD has been positive. I bought mine with 52k miles, completely stock. Yes it is DI but so is the Toyota motor. The 5.6 is tuned conservatively, and it does run rich from the factory. Yes it does blow excess oil through the PCV valves but catch cans will help catch the excess. Uprev tune will lean the A/F mixure out and makes a huge difference in performance, as well as picking up MPG. Also, the 5.0 uses around 10 quarts of oil.

The 2URGSE has port also.. which is used for cleaning...I was hoping someone could chime in on the build quality comparison and what maybe makes one or the other unique, better or not better is whatever aspects. But I believe the VK is a beast
