Hey guys,

Ok after reading about these engines im really wondering how the VK45DD makes LESS power than the DE. I would have thought it would at least be the same with better fuel economy given the direct cylinder injection but it lacks majorly. The DE is rated for 253kw and the DD is rated for around 220kw. Everything I have read leads me to believe that the direct port injection would allow it to run more efficient as well as make more power. Does anyone have any thoughts? Also any thoughts about the DD being suited more for FI? I don't really know of any tuners having used this engine but drop the compression to 10:1 and you have a relatively high comp FI car as the DPI would really help to control detonation as the fuel is injected very close to the top of the compression cycle which means the fuel is in contact with the hot compressed air for a fraction of the time and injection is very close to ignition allowing it to run much leaner without detonation also.

So again I wonder why does the VK45DD make far less power than the VK45DE? Just tuned whimpy or has nissan simply not implemented the system to its full potential?

EDIT: I just read some info about the 2001 onwards cima and a couple of people seem to think the DD engine puts out the same 254kw but the specs I have found all say 206kw.

im with you.. However here in the US we never got that motor so its hard for us to say since i bet no one has any experience...

I will say though you should be able to retune it to more power than a DE engine.

Its the exact same motor, has 11:1 compression and direct port injection and makes 30kw less :o lol. Has to be able to be tuned up to at least the 250 standard. If only I knew japanese, surely there is a heap more knowledge around on all the VH/VK engines over there.

Published JDM specs, even UW ones, are not always spot on.

The DD had to make more power as it had more air (O2) entering the chamber.

Interesting to note, it was discontinued after one year in JDM.
