Guys I'm considering buying a 2006 M35 from a private seller here in my area. He isn't sure about which packages the car came with since he is the 2nd owner. Is there an easy way for me to tell by looking at it? He thinks it has the sports package because of the 19" rims. How do I know for sure if it has the sports, journey, or technology packages?

sport package will have an S badge on the trunk
I think tech package just has NAV, but no dvd player, no shoulder speakers. Look for the DEST and ROUTE buttons on the center console to the left of the turn dial.
Advanced tech package will have shoulder speakers, and spot in lower grill for radar cruise control.
Premium package will have rear seat DVD screen in roof with controls in rear center console

The packages obviously include more, but those are the quick visual signs that are the easiest to spot for each package.

The "S" for sport is only on the 08+ Ms.
Sport will usually have aluminum trim (instead of wood), black headlight bezels (instead of chrome), and as mentioned, 19" rims.
For advanced tech--yes, shoulder speakers on the seat, the steering wheel, right buttons, will have "Cancel", a car with little blocks behind it (for adaptive cruise control), and then "Cruise On/Off". Without advanced tech you will not have the little car with blocks behind it.

Thanks guys! Ok based upon what you both said, I've confirmed it has the sports package because of the aluminum trim, black headlight bezels, and 19" rims. He also has the S next to the M35 badge but I'm guessing he added that himself. His is a 2006.

Also it appears to have the regular tech package since he has NAV, but no shoulder speakers. Where is the DVD player? I thought all the NAVs for this year were loaded via DVD in the glovebox?

How about Journey package?

Don't remember what website where I got all these detailed specs from but:

Journey Package: Bose 2-channel premium audio system with 8 speakers, climate controlled front seats, HomeLink Universal Transceiver, RearView monitor, advanced front lighting with xenon HID headlamps with automatic leveling, front pre-crash seatbelts, compass, audio/video input jacks (those are on the center console facing the back seat passengers)

Journey Package (Sport): Bose 2-channel Premium audio system with 8 speakers, HomeLink Universal Transceiver, RearView monitor, front Pre-Crash seatbelts, compass, audio/video input jacks

Technology Package: DVD navigation system with 8.0-inch LCD screen and Intelligent Cruise Control, Bose Studio Surround sound system, Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system, XM satellite radio

Advanced Tech: 14 speaker system and DVD player for FRONT screen- DVD player for navigation is in glovebox. DVD player for front screen is in center console. (you either have to buy the aftermarket switch or do the Nav hack in order for it to play while moving, otherwise have to have the car parked and e-brake on)

Premium Package: contents of Journey Package and Technology Package plus Mobile Entertainment System, heated and power reclining rear seats, rear passenger H-VAC controls, power rear sunshade, run-flat tires

Thanks Craig. But my question is how do I visually tell which of those packages it has? For example, I think I can safely say it has the tech (non-advanced tech) package because it has the navigation but doesn't have the 14 speaker system which I assume are the speakers you see on the front seats.

But I don't know which of the journey packages it has.

if it is a sport (which I think you already figured out it was. the sport model comes with the HID headlights-although be careful, people have painted in the inside of their headlight housings and added the aluminum trim--for that year, the sport models had orange contrasted stitching on the steering wheel) and there are video and audio jacks in the back of the center console facing the rear seat passengers, behind a little panel--then you have the Journey (sport) package.

if you use the search function (not the greatest for some)--i think someone had asked about the differences between the packages, etc.

The compass is in the RIGHT upper corner of the rearview mirror.
