visual difference btw trannys: S13 &S14?

A guy's got a S13 and S14. The S13 is his drift/play car and the S14 is his "babied" daily driver. However, he has a transmission sitting in his garage and I'm curious which car it came out of. Are there any obivous differences between the S13 and S14 trannys? Is there something I can look for the tell that it definately came from the S13, not the S14 I want to buy??

i think the s14 transmission is shorter??

look for the speed sensor. It sticks out near the back output shaft (not the bell housing side) If it is metal i that is a s13 i f it is plastic then its s14. If it doesnt have speed sensor in it, then pull the serial number off of it. take it to nissan and have them look it up. Hope this helps.~Samp.s. Did u ask the guy?

I did ask him and I believe him. I want some info to verify his claim.

A cut and paste from a thread I found...The S14 ... uses a crankshaft position sensor that mounts on the bell housing that is only found on the S14 trans.

If that is correct, I'm looking for a metal speed sensor and no crank sensor to make sure its a S13 transmission.

right the s14 does have the sensor on top. and s14 has the black plastic speed sensor, while the s13's is silver metal. some of the sensor plugs look a lil different too

yup thats really the only difference I could tell. The S13 and S14 trannies are the same size, I beleive they differ only in sensor stuff.
