I dropped the motor/transmission out of my Q, and I did not touch one bolt on the engine or transmission itself while doing so.

I get the motor out and on the ground, and I notice something wierd. The bellhousing bolt that is behind the drivers side head has the bolt Missing!! Plus, there is this wierd looking stamp on the bellhousing by that bolt hole that I have never seen before on an OEM engine.

Have any of you ever found a missing engine--->transmission bellhousing bolt on your cars before that came that way from the factory?

If this means what I think it does, then someone has either had the motor or transmission out in the past for some reason. The car had 179k miles, but it ran and shifted WAY too good for the mileage and the transmission fluid looked new when I drained it.

that stamp may have been a nickle type metal stamp that only falls of if knocked off or if the engine or trans exceeds a certan temperature, which would void a warranty given from a jdm importer or rebuilder. thats what it look like to me ( bty if thats what it was it fell off)

Have you checked your car's maintenance records? My JDM transmission had a stamp on it when I bought it.

JDM Suppliers will mark all units sold with a punch type stamp to hammer in their ID into the metal. That pic does look like something fell or or melted.

The car came with a bunch of maintenance history, but it was only from about 2001 until the present.. Some guy in memphis bought the car new, and kept absolutely no records until a new family bought it in 2001, drove it for a year, got rearended, and parked the car till I came and got it.

I've never been inside a Re4r transmission, is there a way I can tell by looking at the front pump seal whether or not it's an OEM seal?

ok, I got the front cover off... and the Plastic chain guides are perfect. Not one crack or piece missing.

Is this wierd? Do you think I have a JDM motor/trans?

Common for dealers to change trannies under warranty iin the 90-94 era when Nissan was very loose about warranty, as they were trying to build the brand.

Bring car in for an oil change and a sqweek come back the next day and it had a new transmission, new rad, new tcu and another $5,000 of other repairs.........just some little codes with N/C after them.

You are lucky. Change now and you won't have to drop the oil pan.
