First off let me say, i ran my old Falken Azenis 215 for the first 2 sessions on saturday, then decided to move to my new wheel setup of RX-7 FD wheels and Hoosier S04's, the grip of those are absolutly amazing.

I was getting fuel cut above 6500, so all shifting was done around 6300-6500 making some of my gear changes go into a low rpm area, not so plesent when im trying to pass someone.

My insructor gave me many kudos, and said the car was 'haulin buns" even tho im only running 11 psi and early shifting, i cant imagine how he would have felt with the old 14psi i used to run and 7500rpm shifts .....

Just so everyone knows, this is my 8th track event, 3rd at VIR, this time it was on VIR Grand East, 4.2 mile course. I plan to do roughly 2 more events in group 2, them move up to group 3 (passing any where, always solo unless requested), anyway, enough and onto pictures......enjoy .

BODY ROLL!!!

starting to run away.....

trying to catch the C5

good thing i flared the fenders 2 days before the event

thanks guy, V-mount works great while on track, temps stay low at all times even in extreme outside temps. The tires i was running once i decided the Falkens were done were Hoosier RSO4's 225/50R16.

i trailor my car to the tracks, so i wont be stopping off anywhere to put i non a backroad, sorry. You shoudl egt out to the track with your car, anyback road is fun, but you have no idea how much more capable you are in a controlled environtment like a track. I used to be all over teh back roads also but i wasnt even moving incomparison to how quick i move now.

I agree. VIR is like a smooth one way country road with no cops, plus you can find your top speed on the back straight.

Yeah, usually the full course. Though I've done the north course a couple times, which is fun too. I try to do VIR twice a year. Audi has the full course rented the weekend before Thanksgiving if you're interested.

I'm also doing 3 days at Summit Point in October. Mostly the Shenandoah circuit, but I might get some seat time on the Jefferson circuit too.Should be fun.

ive done VIR Full 2 times and VIR grand once....grand is the best combination of tight turns and quick minuvering and high speeds in other areas.

I know there is an Audi event the same time at Summit Point while im with NASA on the Main course, so you should stop over or ill try to stop over and say hi.....its mid october i think...

Yep, 10/13-15. That would be great. I know I'm on Shenandoah the 13th and 15th. but the 14th could be either Jefferson or Shenandoah, depending on student assignments.

have the Hoosiers wore much yet? i hear they wear down fast. what tire would you recomend for a set of track wheels that have good grip but last long for a not so expensive price, basicaly im asking what tire do you think would be good for a beginner with a kinda low budget that wont wear too fast.

I do Summit Point every year, usually the main track. It's a great place for HPDE's. I'll probably create a thread for the October audi HPDE if you're interested. They don't require Audi's

hankook rs2 or kuhmo mx, they have good enough track wear characteristics, and theyre still good beginner tires becuase they dont have *too much* grip

ill be running the hankooks probably through HPDE 1, then ill run RT615's in 2, r-comps of some sort in 3 (probably toyo RA-1's), and slicks (hoosiers or kuhmo victoracers) in 4

i know youve mentioned it several times, but i found out its on a thurs-fri and not the weekend...and i cant skip school to drive to WV for a track session

unfortunately i think i may be out of luck for this year, my car wont be track ready until after the sat-sun events end, and theres only weekday events left

next summer though, will be a different story

i dont know how audi club works it, but maybe i could even get you as an instructor

i personally only run the Hoosiers because i got a great deal on a set of 5, and being that i am poor i am going to use them for one more weekend event, then i will trash them. They dont wear too fast in my opinion but once i start pushing the car harder and get a stiffer suspension i msure they will wear MUCH faster.

I would recomment Falken 615's for beginners, they are a great tire, i would run a 245 all around if i could afford them, they are cheap, but the hoosiers i got were WAY cheaper. Good heat conatinment, slow wear and great grip once they get to temperature (if you run the right pressures).

a car doesnt haev to be track ready, especially if you are a beginner, take what ya got out there and tean how to use it, i started off with some decent power for a beginner, but a reletively simple setup, nothing much has changed performance wise with my car to this day.

And instructors are only specifically approved people by the club or other associations that are well experienced and properly trained. All instructors have many many events under their belts...usually 20 minimum to star, so odds are he can tbe your instructor, but then again, maybe he has 50 done already, i personally dont know.

oh trust me i know, thats not what i was referring to by "track ready"

my car still had all its 16 year old stock parts on it, except for an exhaust, when i went to run an event last summer

lets just say, it couldve faired better

as of right now, id say my car needs probably $600-$700 worth in parts before itd pass tech, and i cant afford it right now because i need a new computer for school

soooooo...im basically planning to swap the worn out parts with beefy adjustable pieces, might as well...and that way ill be ready to go as soon as the tracks open next spring, and have a slightly better performing car as well

still the only engine mod ill have for probably another 2 years is my exhaust

I've been instructing for Audi for several years. I did open wheel with SKip Barber prior to Audi. I have students that request me, (usually among the more experienced as I'm already familiar with them, and they with me) but the final decision belongs to the eventmaster. I also don't think upgrading the tires is really necessary for a first timer. Heck I used to run all season radials in my 240sx. They got greasy quickly, which made for an entertaining drive. .

What off set and size rim are you running with the 245's?

By the way-for those just getting into this--if you need tires ---go to an SCCA National race. Hang out near the tire trucks and make friends with the tire guys. You can get a Cheap or FREE set of tires. They throw the take offs out---saves them having to bring tham back with them.

PS--I track Toyo RA1's --good long wearing tires.

i run RX-7 FD wheels (16x8 +50) with a 1 inch spacer all around

the hoosiers i currently run are 225/50R16, but i would love to get some 245's, if i wasnt too busy using used hoosiers

Here's the link:

http://www.audiclubna.org/chap...id=55

It's Sat/Sun 10/14-15. $375 for the 2 day school itself, includes event shirt plus ticket to their banquet. You have to join the club in order to attend the school, but it's not expensive and Audi's are not required. If you live far away, they have a block of rooms at a local motel. If you don't own an approved helmet, they'll rent you one for $40. Gotta be at least 18 to attend.

They still have a few spots in the beginner group. Hope to see you there.

That's cool that there's two schools going on at the same time/same place. NASA's on SP's main track both days. Audi has the Jefferson Circuit, skidpad , and the Shenandoah circuit. Always a fun time at SP no matter which event or circuit you do...
