I was wondering if anyone has installed the VIPER REMOTE START 2-WAY LE 5301 in their rogue. I got it for a present and want to get it installed but is it compatible with the keyless entry and keyless turn to start ignition? I have the 2010 Nissan Rogue SL 2010 AWD. I'm thinking of getting it installed at Best Buy for $119.99. Just wanted to see if anyone has information on this specific starter and compatibility with the ROGUE along with specifics on how the install will take place.

Thanks

I'm going to refer you to a post I made two years ago regarding my install: post4346913.html?hilit=Directed%20Electronics#p4346913

In short, there is a keyless bypass kit box that can be used called an XK07 (from Directed) that works just fine on my Hornet 567T which is from the same company that makes the Viper. Unless Directed Electronics has come up with something newer, then the XK07 may still be the Keyless bypass kit that would work with your unit. Please be sure that your installer uses only a -KEYLESS- bypass kit box as you have the Intellikey system.

The tech guys at Directed are great! Call them and explain you have your Rogue with an Intellikey and you would like to know what key bypass kit and wiring adapters/harnesses might be required to install that 5301. This way, you can take the information to your installer of choice, but don't let them talk you in to some other key bypass kit box without researching to make sure it will work without a physical key.

Please keep us posted on your findings and installation experience.

I am thinking about getting a car starter put in my Rogue S but was wondering which brand or type would be recommended and still be able to use my keyless entry? Also do any holes have to be cut through the firewall or anywhere else to install these?

What is it with remote starting systems nowadays?

Idling a vehicle to warm the interior is not kind to either the engine & transmission or the environment. The engine takes longer to warm up which results in more oil dilution (via un-burned fuel) and exhaust emissions. Idling also does not warm the transmission, transfer case and rear differential fluids. Your vehicle only needs 1-2 minutes of idling in even the coldest of weather, then you can drive away.

A few years ago, I made up brackets for a 120V interior car heater so it hangs off the back seat. I have it connected to a timer which turns on both the interior heater and the block heater (all Canadian model Rogues have one). Give it 1-2 hours (It only costs 8 cents/hr to operate) and it takes both the chill off the interior and defrosts the windows. I never have to scrap ice off my windows! Ok, it only works when my vehicle in in my driveway at home as I have access to an outlet. But usually the morning are the worst anyways.

I also would like to get the VIPER smart start for my 08 Rogue sl with intelligent key. I would it to work so when you enter the car you don't have to step on the brake and kill the engine and then restart it by turning the ignition switch. :yesnod

Does anyone have a Viper that works this way?

I think starters are a bad idea for a car with intelligent keys. I didnt get it because of the fact that you need to press the brake and cut off the engine just to turn it back on again....didnt make sense to me. Also, i heard you have to plant the key in the car somewhere permanently for this to work! If this is the case, how is that secure? when you get in the car is it reading the key in your pocket or the one that is in the car already? and if it is the one on the car...does the keycode still change when you turn off the car and leave? What happens when the battery in the hidden key dies???

Since my car warms up after about 5 blocks of drive, it just doesn't seem worth the hassle. to me.

I just purchased a 2011 Rogue and had the dealership install the Viper 5101 remote start system. I have an intelligent key and have no problems with the system. Purchased and installed with Best Buy was roughly $540.00 but only paid $400.00 to the dealership

I'm not knocking Best Buy or the people that work there, but make sure you look around. I'm very picky about who I let touch my car for any kind of work. When it comes to my almost $30k investment, I'm definitely not looking to have the work done by the lowest bidder. I realize that Best Buy guarantees their work, but I've seen some horror stories online regarding installs done there. Not to say that doesn't happen everywhere sometimes. Anyway, point of the rant is - look for the best qualified place to do your work, not necessarily the cheapest.

I too am very picky about who I will allow to work on my car and just to be safe if you are going to have the 5301 installed talk to you dealer and see if they will warrant the work of the installer. I know that most places like that require that you sign a release and they will only warrant the product not the work. I had everything drawn up with the dealership and they took care of anything and if anything were to happen they would cover the costs of repairs.

My Rogue has Autostart 2451 (http://www.myprimeauto.ca/product.cfm?p ... 26&catID=2). Despite the fact that it looks ugly, I love the idea of starting the car remotely (I wish my Rogues original remote had a button to start the engine). Imagine you wake up and realized that you have 15 cms of snow. While you are cleaning the snow, you just press the button and engine starts, after 4 minutes you are ready to go. Otherwise you have to open the door, insert the key, turn the engine on and with the key on the car(including the key of your home), close the door  ..And rather than idling the car for 2-3 minutes, while waiting in the car without doing nothing, you just turn the engine on while you are walking to your car and when you enter your car it was already idled for 2-3 minutes..so you are ready to go.

I think using the remote starter for a warm car in the Winter and a cool car in the Summer is stupid, but during the Winter my remote starter saves my day.

I just saw the DRONE remote start using an iPhone. Has anyone seen or installed this?

@ 300winmag who PMed me: I still have to restart the car if I press the brake w/o turning the ignition switch to ACC. The brake pedal kill switch is just incase someone trys to steal your car, example: someone hops in the drivers seat and steps on brake to shift into gear but the car shuts off and prevents the thief from moving car.... not that he would get far since the key lock cylinder would lock the steering wheel. I suppose it is possible to disable this feature by disconnecting the wire that connects to the brake pedal switch but I would not recommend this.

I apologize for not being able to PM back.

No problem, bummer about the restart thing though. I had one install company who said they could properly do it and another who said they wouldn't even touch it due to warranty and safety concerns.

Well as long as you just turn the ignition switch before pressing the brake there is no need to resart the car. I had the dealer sign an agreement that the remote start install would not void the warranty and that if anything did happen they would cover the costs of repair. That is one thing I don't like about the installers, they warrant the product but not the install.

the only way you can take it out of park is by pressing the brake or using the key from the fob which make the "keyless" factor useless. I am going to leave it in and wait a year or so until someone comes out with a solution.

I have a 2011 with the intelligent key and I do not have to press the brake to start the vehicle. I confirmed this today.

Sorry I meant to say you have to use the brake pedal to take it out of park.

I could, but I don't have anything to go on about. I went to the car, key in pocket, pushed the ignition switch in and turned it to start the car without pressing the brake pedal. :)

Nissan owners usually are usually of the mild-mannered class
