here is an excerpt from the 790xv Installation manual, the 791 is different so don't use the instructructions for programming a 791 even though the remote is the same style.
NOTE: For information regarding remote programming please refer to the Owners Guide.
The System comes with one transmitter that has been taught to the reciever. The reciever can store up to 4 different transmitter codes. Use the Following learn routine to transmitters to the system.or to change button assignments if desired. If the system was previously prgrammed using a bitwriter the learn routine may be locked. If the the siren generates one long chirp when attempting to program the unit, the learn routine is locked and must be unlocked using a bitwriter. 1. Open a door2. Turn the Key to the on position.3. Select the reciver channel press and release the valet program switch the number of times necessary to access the desired channel. Once you have selected the desired channel press and HOLD the valet button once more. The siren will Chirp and the LED flash the number of times corresponding to the channel that has been accessed.
Note to program a new Transmitter/reciever. It most be first taught to the unit in channel 1 or Channel 5 positions prior to programming other channels.
4. Press the transmitter button. while holding the Valet/ Progamming switch press the button from the tranmitter that you wish to assign to that channel the unit's siren will chirp to indicate a successful programming. it is not possible to teach a button to the unit more than once.
5. Release once the code has been learned the valet push button can be released.
here are the channels for the 7901. arm/disarm/panic2. silent mode/ trunk pop/remote valet3. remote start4. second unlock or accessories5. arm only6. disarm only7. panic only8. auto learn Standard configuration*9. auto learn single button arm disarm config.10. delete all transmitters.
I would recommend you start over. program channel ten delete all tranmitters, then reprogram channel 8 to the new remote and it should operate like when it was new. good luck!
