So we got this Viper in, advertised 800 HP with a 200 shot of nos. Has a serious boost creep problem, owner says hes hit 16 psi. Lucky he didnt trash the motor already, but its fully built, 50g's into it.

So we get the car, take it apart to find this.

Its running duel 44mm wastegates, which at its desired set boost of 8 should be fine..

Can you guys see that crap? They actually used the internal wastegate port on the turbine housing for their external gate. This tiny little 3/4ths inch pipe running out of the hole they cut in a Garrett 5 bolt flange feeds the 44mm wastegate...

After i noticed that, i found some other pretty sad things.

Look at this drain line. Anyone see a problem with this?

This came out of one of the 4 main Viper shops in the country. They are a HUGE name, most people have heard of them. Just really, really .

I just think its funny that most Ka-T guys know apparently a hell of a lot more about turboing a stock motor than some Viper techs that are getting paid bank to do the work. KA-T's, pat yourselves on the back.

I really asked myself the same Q. The thing isnt being boosted because it creeps so bad so that might be the reason. I know it WILL become a problem, im going to recommend putting duel scavenging pumps on both lines.

Umm on my Turbonetics T3 turbine housing, the WG hole was less than 30mm.I ported it out to about 28 if I remember.

Yeah those drains are funny too. They might work... I wouldn't test them though...

Damn thats really ghetto fabulous. lol

And that guy paid good $$ for that.....

Thats my theory on things.

Get this guys.. The leading biggest named company(who did this work) who works on vipers is nothing more than a training school for performance auto techs. So you send your car to these guys and a bunch of students do all the work. The guy with the Viper just thinks hes getting some huge name brand expensive job when the owner is getting paid not only by the customer but by his students too! What a freaken racket lol.

^^

Its going to be a really amazing test run on this thing. We have to test the 200 shot of nos to make sure its still not creeping...

I cant imagine what 600 hp + an instant 200 hp is going to feel like. Ill try to get a vid when we do it.

Ahh i figure id share this pic with you guys as well.

Yea you were. Thanks for the edit.

Im not really a big fan of vipers either. Id take a Vett over one any day of the week. After looking at them, dude they arnt crap. Just a tubed out race car with a fancy fiber glass molded body. You should see the interior, its a joke.

I would rather have the viper. Sell it and buy 2 s14's and build a garage to keep them in lol.

First, no problem man. I don't want to see anyone get in any sorts of trouble. I've heard WAY worse then this car...

And you make a good point with the second part. Maybe the KA-T section should open up a shop and sponsor ourselves,

I just hacked off the downpipes(its all being redone), and took off the wastegates and exhaust. Then i go to take off the hot pipes.. Oil poured out of both hot pipes. Seriously there was .3-4 L in each hot pipe. Ill toss pics up later, just came inside to eat and now i gotta go out and rip these snails off.

I think I could do a better job of twin turbo'ing the viper just from reading info found in the KA-T section.

Ohh the horror! Dude it just keeps getting better. Btw i found out today that the company that will remain nameless took 105,000 dollars to do this work. They also pulled the engine and swapped pistons, thats it as far as motor work goes.

First, here are some pics of the IC pipes. The IC pipes on this thing were done with one wicked piece of custom bent silicone, which is actually pretty cool. If it wernt filled with oil.

Heres how much oil drained out of the hotpipe.

Oh wait! It wasnt done draining! There was another big pocket of oil that snuck up on me.

Heres one of the highlights of tonight's adventure into the realms of N/A to turbo building stupidity.

The drain flanges were done with RTV. When i popped them loose half the drain was being restricted by RTV. Look at this dude, i mean honestly..

Heres two very unhappy t3/t4 ball bearing Turbonetics. Going to pop off the housings and hot tank them, such garbage. You can see how much oil went through them the housings are coated in it.

Just for fun, heres the 5 bolt Garrett flanges and their 44mm wastegate setups. Just..

I love that last one, it looks like some sort of wind instrument. Im going to keep it and see if i can get a reed into it, i bet it makes a great sound.

Or maybe stuff it with food and use it as a cornucopia, seasons greetings guys.

Holy crap that is an abomination. I can't believe someone even allowed this to be given back to the customer. Some people these days...

I swear we could make bank if we offered road side assistance haha, it'd be sick.

Thanks aud.

Hah i wouldnt mind having one of the 44 mm wastegates myself.

But all that stuffs getting redone.

This just goes to show ya, the performance world really is lacking knowledgeable people. If you really know your stuff theres work out there for you.

I mean.. 105k for this job lol, someone else needs a piece of that pie.

Names make money...It's horrible IMO. I have several friends who KNOW their stuff, but they just can't get too much business because they don't have a big name yet.
