I'd be pretty crabby if I cut a wire too.

Don't just claw your way through the harness.

You'll pinch yourself when you realize how easy it is to follow wires.

Unless you're a hermit, I'm sure you've heard of the FSM.

But really get an fsm and start following wires. I'm sure you'll be able to figure out what the "crab" is once you trace the wires.

hermit crabs are not real craps. infact this crustacean is hiding in its hole and not found anywhere in the fsm. its shell blends in well with the electrical section.

my concern is that it is wired into the original wires replacing them. its at the base of the steering colum. i am having a hard time figuring out what wires are in the steering colom the fsm doesnt have a sterrtin colom section (that i can find)

It should be very obvious what is OEM and what is not as far as wiring. And if you still can't tell what is what, then start at the aftermarket alarm brain and trace every wire from it. Disconnect every wire you trace from the OEM wire that it taps into. If there is some other module, maybe shock sensor or something that is plugged into the aftermarket brain, then remove that module. Because if it's "plugged" into the aftermarket alarm, then that makes it aftermarket also.

Maybe I have just been doing this for far too long and can instantly tell what belongs and what doesn't

The question is: what was/is the relay pack connected to? If the wires off the relay pack are soldered or T-tapped etc. to the OEM wiring, then it's not OEM. So yank it. Or, if the relay pack was "plugged" into the aftermarket brain, then it is obviously not an OEM relay pack. Did this unit also do remote start?

Yep, that's the remote start wiring and relay pack. Yank that crap out. So where the heavy gauge remote start wires tap in, assuming it's soldered, just cut it flush with OEM wire then tape around the joint.

That picture you posted is a very nasty install, but unfortunately very common of what I see come in my shop. Basically any of those wires you see in that picture where a wire is draped from point A to point B is not OEM. OEM wires will be in a bundle of some sort and taped or loomed of some sort. Also, you will never have crimp connectors like those transparent blue ones as part of the OEM wiring.
