I have a 91 Hicas s13 Fastback

it used to shimmy every now and then.... but now it does it ALL the time above 60mph and shakes rather violently at that!

(Its the front end/steering wheel of the car that shakes)

I'm about to go NUTS as I've troubleshooted it a LOT and now I'm turning to you guys......

I have replaced the following with known good parts from parts cars I have on hand here already........these did NOT solve the problem....

Items I've replaced include:

1) tension rods2) changing the front tires (thought it might be an unbalanced wheel/tire but no3)put in another steering rack.....4) changed strut spring assembly in the front5) put Hicas hubs w/abs assembly on from a hicas parts car i have6)replaced lower control arms7) I even turned the abs off via pulling the fuse & fusable link to make sure it wasnt causing the issue......8) I checked the holes on the back side of the crossmember that like to wear oval shaped and they looked to be ok...... not much wear so that shouldnt be it (where the lower control arms bolt in)

I need some more ideas!!!

Please help!

Next I plan to replace the steering collumn but Id rather it not come to that......

if anyone has some advice -- please share~

thanks!

Damon

Does it happen when stepping on the brakes, accel, decel, etc? Have you checked your tie rods?

it wouldnt be related to the steering column, it is something in the front end suspension that is worn out or broken. you should check an recheck the front tie rods ends, joints , etc. Have a shop look at the alignment. Sometimes paying a few bucks for a professional opinion of whats wrong an then replacing the items yourself is well worth it.
