Hey All,

I am interested in wrapping my wood trim on my M. I feel like the brown wood does not fit with the rest of the car so I wanna go with maybe some light gray wood to match my exterior. I know Freddy and Robert have done this to their M's so if you guys can chime in that would be great.

Just a few questions for you folks out there. Has anyone else done this before? Can someone point me in the right direction as to where I can get the best deal on the vinyl? Should I get the adhesive kind or the one with out and use glue? Will this damage the wood trim? How easy is it? As always, any comments, pics or help will be greatly appreciated.

I haven't wrapped my wood inserts, but I wrapped the multi-switch and console area in carbon fiber, which you can see in my pic link in my sig. I would definitely recommend using 3M brand. I believe mine was called: '3M 1080 scotchprint' and you can buy it on Ebay. It is a great quality, it's can be heated with a hair dryer to stretch it around corners, and it is bubble-free. You can use high gloss or matte finish wrap. You won't need glue, but you must use a felt-covered squeegee to smooth it out. Regular plastic squeegees will leave marks.

By far, the best mod I've seen on the trim pieces is the hydro-dip. You can do a search on here for 'vinyl wrap' or 'hydro dip' . That should show you the posts from those who have done it. That is much more labor intensive than a wrap. There is also an DIY in the upper section of the forum page with instructions on how to remove the trim pieces.

I've done it 3 times already, first one was black carbon fiber second brushed steel now have the black one also brushed.

I got the vinyl from ebay i think it was maybe 40$ but I was always getting extra vinyl in case i make mistake. Also all of them were adhesive. In my case i never had any problems with removing it from the wood and it didn't damage the wood trim.

You would have to remove all door trim and dash trim as well. When you do it first time it's gonna be hard a little. The easiest parts to wrap are door pieces. It gets a little difficult with center console and radio panel as well as ash tray and shifter knob piece. With center console i had to remove all buttons then wrap it and then put all of those buttons in the place where they are suppose to be. Radio buttons and clock are removable also. You have to have a lot of patience to do it. Gotta have couple of new sharp blades and heat gun. Then you can get something done.

Freddie got better deal on that brushed vinyl than me but he is now getting some tan in Puerto Rico :D he will be back on 18th so you can ask him from where he got his vinyl.

If you have any other questions hit me up. :D

I'm interested in doing this too. I already bought the black brushed steel 3m vinyl, but I'm scared to try and remove the multi-switch control center. I think that I may have to remove the dash pieces in order to get to it, but I don't want to break anything-lol and wanted to ask the experts. Are there any instructions on the forum in regards to how to remove it? I definitely don't want to start a thread if it's already posted somewhere, however if someone would PM me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks guys, Big P

You would have to remove trim that is on top of the glovebox and also small wood trim that is on the left side of center console. Two screws are holding the center control . When you remove it you will have to unscrew the back of it then you will get access to the buttons from the back you just press on them and they will pop out. Just take your time.

You care to do a write up on removing each piece? I'm planning on hydro dipping and am interested on specifics with the dash and door.

Thanks for the input Rob. Just a quick question. I read a.blanco's DIY on how to remove the trimming but still a little confused on the doors. Do you need to remove the whole door panel to remove the trim there?

Probably the whole door.

Either way, it would be a great asset to the community if you could create a proper howto on how to do that (remove the door panel), etc.

Let me just add:

It seems horribly complicated to remove the multi-switch but it really isn't. Once you get started, you will see how the surrounding pieces pop out. After you unplug the switch, just flip it over on a very soft towel to avoid scratching and remove the little screws that hold the back cover.
When popping out the individual switches from behind, be VERY careful NOT to use anything sharp like a screwdriver. I used possibly the smallest flat head screwdriver and on one of the switches, it went right through it! Luckily, the hole was oh so small and it wasn't visible after re-installing. Perhaps it's best to cover what ever you use to push out the switches just to make sure you don't punch a hole.
Maybe others who have done this mod can tell us what tool they used to push out the individual switches. Also, keep a pic of the original multi-switch handy. I need that to help me decide where all those plastic switch pieces belong, LOL.
