Yeah man Ive been posting my boys website up (Catalyst Signworks) since this thread started, he even said one of you heads contacted him about purchasing vinyl. I actually just spoke on the phone with him about it. Notes from him above are for a full install. Some other things he mentioned while speaking on the phone, dude is certified by 3M and Avery so he knows his stuff:
1) If you plan on doing this yourself, dont plan on it staying around very long unless you properly prep the car and inspect the paint and clear coat. If you dont prep properly, static will leave dirt and other debris under the wrap and once you heat shrink it its not coming out. If your clear coat is bad, removing the wrap will also remove your clear and possibly paint.
2) Properly prepping the car takes your job time up to anywhere from 30-40 hours, whomever said they did it in 2 days is either full of it or did a crap job.
3) One 50' x 6' sheet is not enough for a professional to do the job. In square footage, that leaves approximately 8' x 6' of left over for f*ck ups, etc. He said thats so slim a margin that you would have to plan out and carefully cut each piece within inches. Would be like putting together a huge puzzle and you might end up with a 1' x 6' strip for your hood when you need a 6' x 6'.
4) Any kind of body kit is going to make the job 10X more difficult. Thats obvious. But it also makes a difference on what material the body component is made out of. Fiberglass takes differently than urethane, different techniques, etc.
5) The vinyl you purchase also makes a huge difference. 3M and Avery brands are supposedly the best in the industry. There are also different grades of vinyl within each brand. Basically, make sure you know what you are buying before you buy it.
Not trying to burst anyone's bubble here, just trying to let everyone know what they are getting themselves into if they really want to do this. He said he has no problem selling people rolls of vinyl, but he wont do an install without an inspection first. He warrantys all of his work, has to with his certification. If he does a crap job on a bad clear coat, he loses his certification and business.
Just food for thought...
