I came across an interesting method of protecting a car's finish at the race track recently - vinyl covering for the car.
Those of you who have spent anytime on a race track know that the environment is not very friendly with our precious paint jobs. One person, Dan, found an unique way of preventing rock chips and other minor mishaps. Essentially, Dan covered his entire car with a vinyl covering. The same type of stuff used to cover cars you see as advertising/marketing vehicles.
I don't think anybody else is going to go to the extreme of covering their entire car like Dan, but the concept might be worth considering for protecting the front end and areas that are mostly likely to get rock chips. BTW, it took Dan two days to fully cover his car with vinyl.
Dan also likes to record his track sessions. Mounted to the front tow hook is a lipstick camera.
Of course, the vinyl protection isn't going to be much help when your car hits something larger than a small rock or piece of debris.
