hey, i searched for this but I doubt its really something most people are concerned with:

recently I got black interior pieces for my 240sx because the hideous brown was really getting to me, anyways when I swap the dash's I would really like to keep my vin number so my car is still legal to register etc, is there anyway to switch the vin's without damaging the dash? would I need a pop-rivoter or something to pit them back in? thanks

You should be able to pull the VIN off the back of your original dash and place it in the new one. The VIN sits behind the dash and is not firmly attached to it.

well, I got the vin off of the black dash, though...I totally destroyed the vin plate, I figure you should be able to push the plate out from the back, don't try prying it off from the front because its really thin and will break that way, just use a pick or something and punch out the pop rivots from the back.

You MUST take it off from the back. You can't pry it up from the front without bending the crap out of it.

well, yeah that was common sense, I just figured, its not too big of a deal with the black dash since the car is now in pieces and spread all over the eastern seaboard (legally of course) but I will be more careful with getting my vin off the brown dash and putting it back into the black one. I not only bent the hell out of the vin form the black dash I also cut up my fingers pulling it off. :) blood sweat and tears have gone into my car dammit
