vin numbers and lsd question

I'm sure this question has been asked before but i can't find it on the site anywhere. How can you tell if a 240 is from usa or canada? i'm sure it can be done with the vin numbers, but i was wondering if there was another, easier way to tell. I am also wondering how to tell if a car has lsd. i know to spin the tires, but the problem is i have found a few junk yard 240s and the tires won't spin. thank you very much. ~Missy~

The first section of the VIN gives the country of origin.

see if the ebrake is pulled up or not.

if there is lsd, it will have a orange sticker.

both the cars are 89. thanks for the site it helped. and has far as the e-brake being on, it wasn't....its not connected anymore. the cars have been stripped of most stuff. and how and where would i find an orange sticker.

I am not 100% sure if this applies to an 89 I only have manuals back to 93, but on the label at the right rear of the engine compartment along the fire wall there should be the identification of all the power train id's on the line labeld axle on the 93 it has 2 different diffs available a 200 and a 200V, it should identify that on the label the V is the lsd diff.

if you look at the diff, the open one has just a few cooling fins on an s13. a s13 lsd has lots of big cooling fins. also lsd usualy comes with five bolt star pattern axles. dont go by the abs. a lot of people say that abs cars have lsd but not all of them do.

the 89 and 90 did not have an lsd option, starting in 91 it was optional and in 92 it was standard on the se model and optional on the xe [base]. look for the 200v on the label I mentioned.
