That's really weird. Doesn't sound at all like I was expecting. I don't know what to tell you. What was the difference in the noise before the new rims?

there was no noise....the noise came about 20kms after the rims were put on. Took her home parked it. then when i left later on i heard the noise. The drive home from the wheel place was noiseless tho it was the next time i drove the noise appeared and it hasnt gone away since (150 kms later)

That's really wierd man.

You should pull the wheel off and see if there any marks inside the rim

that is weird man. Dont know what to tell ya.

try taking the wheel off and looking around the wheel well to see if there are any marks. And then check the rims. Move the brake disc back and forth to see if it makes any noises.

I'd say its most likely linked to the new wheels.. I mean, you never heard anything before you put them on... it's too much of a coincidence.

Interesting.......

You mentioned in your test that it is also evident when in NEUTRAL? You do when if the car's rolling along in Neut, right? Just want to make sure, because if that were the case we could obviously rule out the rims as a source.

Are you absolutely sure it's emanating from the from front right wheel?

The sound reminds me of a version of what you hear when you engage the park brake....which I saw you perform at the end of the video. Drums on back right? Have you double checked the park brake and all assoc. parts?

Another thought: the protective dust backing plates protecting the inside surface of the front rotors. If even slightly deformed, enough to cause a tiny rub, the sound can definitely vary from intermittent to acute/constant based on several factors e.g. temp, minute variances in rotor thickness. This actually happened on my previous rig: An Acura 3.0 CL. You see, if the scrape was only effecting a small scrape on each rev I think the abrasive pad would take care of much of the evidence after braking - I couldn't see anythnig obvious in my case. On a hunch I used a soft-blow rubber hammer and beat the left front plate silly, to no avail. But after I nailed the right one, bingo/solved.

I'll keep thinking. Did you hit anything, or run over anything you recall right after the new rims were installed?

Good luck.

...Ok ok I'm an idiot - you didn't enage the brake....but I'd still take a look.

you sir, know your stuff and i will definately take your advice. I did engage neutral and rolled with the same exact sound. Your dust plate idea sounds like it could be it to be honest...it is a plastickey-rubberey sound. Its something minute, i have no issues coasting and steering is straight, no vibrations which is why i am not too worried about this. I wont be taking the wheel off until probably next week, were supposed to get SNOW tommorow and tuesday and im off to windsor on friday-sun so next week i mike bring it to my buddys hoist and giver her a very detailed look.

its definately from the right side, up front. The rims were quiet after installation but as i said about 20kms later i heard the noise when going slow. I didnt hit anything as far as i recall, i always avoid potholes and sewers and go over curbs realll slow

If anyone else has ideas let me know, im going to write them down and inspect every single piece of advice you guys give me

SOOOOO i found out, if i hit the brakes hard, the sounds is GONE. I noticed this when going about 30, hit the brakes hard (if i hit lighty sounds still there) when i hit the brakes hard, the sounds gone, when i let go and continue coasting, its back

brakes then? wouldnt i still here it then up on the hoist because it was dead silent on the hoist

10 bucks says its the splash guard on the front side of the wheel well. The sound has too many "beats" to it, if you will, to be associated with any driveline, in respect to rotations...it starts and is pretty rapid even when moving slowly...sounds exactly like a corner hanging from the splash guard and clicking off of every lug on your tire. As said before, though, it does sound alot like the groan of the e-brake engaged...how did you pinpoint the right front? Have you had someone walk around the car when rolling slowly and have then locate exactly where the sound is coming from? I mean..even if right front, they could pinpoint left, right, top, center, etc...give you a better position to start looking....good luck with it.

check the backing plate then, pressing brakes HARD will compress the caliper more, may just be rubbing a little

Have you tried putting the old wheels back on, just to see if the noise is gone?Bit of a pain to do, but it may help narrow it down.

Every since I threw my rims on, I am getting a noise similar, but only when I have the wheel turned all the way and going backwards. I came the conclusion the problem was the front wheels rubbing on the wheel well splash guard .zerothread?id=410474

But I do agree with the BUZZMAN, you should throw the original wheels on confirm if the wheels are the problem. Process of elimination.

If the noise were the rims it would still be there in neutral.

what happened to you man, you were so cool before, then you had to go and diss me in my other thread ...... you were so helpful too! i think someone stole your identitiy!

Anyways, this video proves that I do, in fact own a "QX-4", had I not it would be pretty weird having all these posts, and interests, and pictures, in a vehicle i did not own.

btw guys the sound was fixed weeks ago, it was in fact a piece of plastic.
