Here's a video hosted by Nissan's website that describes first impressions of test drives of the Leaf. All the reviews seem to indicate that the car accelerates faster and handles better then people expected.

I know it's heavy, but I'm still thinking this might be a decent autocross vehicle. All of that low end torque is going to be perfect for an autocross. I wonder how much tire I could fit in that fenderwell? LOL!

Roll them!

I wonder what one of these would do on the drag strip? Electric cars have a tendency to blow everything away in the 1/4 mile.

Not a chance. The lightest class in autocross (meaning the class that should have the slowest times) is h-stock and that can be easily dominated by the 89 Civic or a non-force induced Mini. The car might be ok in really tiny regional autocrosses, but nothing that holds any weight.

As far as tire size goes, you'd be surprised. I can fit a 275 on the Rolla and thats saying alot.

I don't dis-agree with your logic, but as I'm sure you know, H-stock hasn't exactly fit into it's supposed time slot the last few years. The mini's are tearing it up and I wouldn't be surprised if something isn't changed soon. But that's not really a leaf debate, so I'll leave it at that.
