Ok, I was just going over the parts I have out from my plenum removal, and saw this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plbvv77tKHk

I am 99.99% sure that this damage was not done during removal, as I was as possibly careful as could be, and the broken areas seem as if they've been broken for some time. Also, the ones that aren't broken are not pliable at all, and seems as if it would require some normal engine heat or something to break, because right now it sure ain't easy to break one. There is no way I did this removing them...no way.

This stinks. Do I gamble and reassemble injectors that were otherwise FINE, or keep the car off the road until I can afford a new set?

Anyone else ever seem similar damage on the injectors???

EDIT: just did a search, stumbled upon another thread in which they are referred to as "pintle caps." That right?

Deatschwerks is a good company. Tell them you are form NICO and they will run a couple of tests for free beyond the basic.

The pintile cap can not unseat an o-ring, but i'm sure they serve a purpose. I believe you can buy the ones for your style of injector separately - but as Brian said - Deatschwerks is a great company. Their service would be an excellent choice.

i had a chance to take the whole top end off a junked vh41 for spare parts and accidentally did the same thing, they break off fairly easy if the corners hit a hard surface. i think there purpose is to keep gunk from building up but not sure. you should be able to use the same injectors. good luck and thanks for taking pics.

Yeah, I spoke to Deutscheworks. Mark is a very nice guy, Dave wasn't in the office.

They can rehab all 8 injectors, and each rail for $4/injector, for a total of around $280.

You just can't beat that, and he sounded EXTREMELY knowledgeable and competent.

Clearly the best choice for anyone...it's also very fast shipping, he mentioned it's always a 1-2 day process and you get them back quickly. For anyone pulling valve covers or plenum, this should be a no-brainer.

Now I just have to find $280 or hate myself every day until I inevitably remove my fuel rails again just for this.....

I believe your dog had something to do with this.....you see how he just walks away when you are showing the damage? ...

I had a similar situation and I sent the whole fuel rail assembly to Deusts...they replaced all the caps and O-rings (besides cleaning and testing all injectors). They even sent me the original parts back

I highly recommend them.

I did the exact same thing on my parts car-I have no idea how as I was careful also. It seems that they must serve a purpose but they are awfully fragile. I have several used ones that I'll sell cheap if you want.
