My car is a 90 Hatch and has around 200k miles. Now I know there will be loose things all around that car and that's to be expected. However there is a really bad viration under the steering column or in the engine bay under the column. It sort of sounds like water tumping around, but more crisp. Now I was wondering if any of you have really bad vibrations and what I could do to fix them or make them quieter. It's really one of thos "you have to be there" sort of problems, but any help would be great. There is also a really bad one like dead center in the cargo area when I'm at like 1500-2000 RPM in 2nd gear.

i have a couple that sound like they come from inside the dash, they are only there at certain rpms but it annoys the crap out of me.

rock the motor from both sides, you might have a broken motor mount.

It's not a motor mount. I checked that. The engine is quite stiff. And yeah the vibrations give me headaches. I almost don't want to drive anyone anywhere because they are so loud and embarassing. You know, because I have this nice looking car and it sounds like the engine is going to fall out~

No I just put my exhaust in like a week ago and I've checked that as well. Hey, any of you with the N1 single, does the pipe run extremely close to the differential and drive shaft? The vibration I'm talking about isn't from the pipe hitting the diff BTW, I checked that.

S14Life, I have the small problem! It drives me mad. Mine seems to be coming from the right side of the dash. And since the vibration rattles my dash, It makes my keys chatter because they are hanging down touching the dash making it even worse!

check and see if something like a tie wrap or a thin metal braket is rubing the firewall.

I don't think something like that would be loud enough.

Also I can feel this grinding through the gas peddle. It's a very strange feel, but it's definatly like a grinding sensation. Anyone know what that may be?

check you throttle cable routing maybe one of the cable retainers under the hood is rubbing the firewall or even the hood. seen it on other models alot. those cables get repositioned to do other work on the car and then aren't put back in the right location when the job is complete.
