When I first bought my 240, it had a vibration, seemed very much like u-joint vibration. I had more than one shop check the u-joints, and also checked them myself, and they are fine. I replaced the carrier bearing. No difference. This vibration comes and goes. Some days my car rides perfectly smooth, other days the vibration is so bad between 55-70 mph that it seems like the car is just gonna fall apart if I don't get it fixed. And, even on the same trip, I can be cruising at 60-65 perfectly smooth, then get stuck at a stop light. After I reach cruising speed again, the vibration is there. I've had alignment done, I've got 4 brand new tires, and they are balanced. People have suggested I need new shocks/struts. When I bought the car I was told it had a new clutch. If they didn't replace the throwout bearing, could that be the cause of the vibration? Also, it seems to only be when the car is in 5th gear. cruising at 65 in 5th can be very harsh, but if I shift to 4th and stay at 65, its smooth as butter. but that's not practical, obviously, to do long periods of cruising in 4th gear. But I think its only smoother because the engine is at higher rpm. What could it be? Motor mounts? transmission mounts? bushings? Help!!!! Thanks a lot guys!
