If you have the tools, place to work and the experience, both jobs can be accomplished by you.

There are extensive posts, and judging by your questions, you have not read them all. I would encourage you to do that on this Forum and on the Infiniti Mechanic Forum so you can better assess the time and complexity issues.

Doing either in one weekend might be a little ambitious, but they both definitely need to be done before you drive the car any more.

Look to http://www.everythinginfiniti.com for your parts. And be sure to secure a factory service manual prior to either job.

http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....48968Read through for chain guide parts.

http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....=1632Chain guide how-to (without chains).

Why did the dealer say you should replace your guides/chains? Most dealers won't admit they're a problem until after a failure.

http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....49246http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....41049Some injector info. If your hoses are original, it's unlikely you'll be able to replace the injector without removing the plenum and replacing all the hoses. It's definitely not recommended.

Exactly. There really aren't any tell-tale signs of failure; if the guides fail and cause a timing chain issue, it's usually sudden. Ask them how they came to their diagnosis.

Im curious as well. I wonder how many customer's theyve had to deal with who endured early guide failures?

The clock is ticking on my Q, which remains parked and covered.

Good question. If not, call Infiniti Customer Service if no dealer is nearby.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

FYI: here's the information I got from the service records on the car I just bought.

At 47,712 miles...Cranks but won’t start. Also, loud grinding noise. Tore down engine and found right side timing guide had broken and timing chain had jumped. #8 cylinder valve broken/walls badly scored. Replaced engine.

It can happen at any time.

I wonder if that's the one I read about...the one that I mentioned in the other forum that failed around 48k? What are the odds?

I also forgot to mention that i had my heads resurfaced and my cylinders honed and my injectors blueprinted (cleaned).
