Hi guys I got a strange issue going on with my 09 rogue.

I say strange as the noise sounds like a wheelbearing, but both are brand new. the noise kinda goes away when turning left, which normally means right wheelbearing, but ive put two on and its still the same. tires were checked for weird wear patterns and even rotated.

One thing i did notice when rotating the tires, i had it on a lift and when i spun the front tires by hand, I could see the engine moving a fair bit this was with smooth turning, can anyone think of a cause? wheel alignment or bad mounts? i quickly looked over the mounts they dont appear to have heavy wear

Well it certainly can be the motor mounts, however it's probably your bearings...still. What kind of bearings did you put in? Did you buy them from the dealer? eBay? Or even worse amazon? How about the local parts store or rockauto? Most people when they go buy bearing they go for the lowest dollar item available and then wonder why they only get two days or 2000 miles out of them.

I buy by brand. Timken is my preferred brand, followed by FAG, SKF, Moog all of these are good brands, but even some of these companies are bowing to the pressure of low price at the cost of quality by offshoring the manufacturing to China. At which point it becomes a crap shoot.

If you put off brand specials on you will become an expert at bearing replacement because you'll have to keep doing it till you get a good one. If you put good ones in, then by all means take a look at any thing else that might create a bearing noise and vibration. Motor mounts, inner and outer cv joints, tie rods, ball joints and of course tires.

Rockauto carries all my preferred brands and if I ask for them the local carquest will get FAG's for me.

It cant be the the bearings they are brand new, i literally just put another set on tonight and the sound is exactly the same. and i bought local, skf is my brand of choice. I dont buy cheap because they dont last and something as important as a bearing, you should never cheap out on.

the tie rods were replaced 2 months ago
the lower control arms were replaced same time
cv shafts were done 6 months ago

like i said went over the tires and rotated them, but the movement on the engine had me questioning the mounts or alignment

i do like rockauto, i just cant wait sometimes for the parts to come

Check the mounts out, but the last SKF U joint I bought (napa) had a big made in China printed on it. I put it on my old dump truck, I only put a 1000 miles a year or so on that so it might last 5 years and I'd never remember by then where I got it or what kind it was.

I like to say if you're going to hang fuzzy dice on your mirror or put new mud flaps on, fine buy whatever, but critical engine parts, bearings, brakes etc. always go for quality over low price.

If it's your alignment it will show up pretty quick on your tires, by wearing off one side or the other.

Get a small pry bar and see what the motor mounts do.

I hate to say it but from your description I think you've still got a bad bearing. Changing a bearing is not something I look forward to. I've got to do one on my car, and I've been avoiding it.

I have a 2009.

I don't know if you have a AWD or the left & right turn issue.

But I read online on ball bearing, tires, mounts-related etc.

Had a vibration issue myself, but don't know if its the same as your. It sporadically happens between 30-40mph.

This might not make sense to you but try changing your transfer, differential, and mainly CVT fluid.

Especially after the CVT fluid drain and fill, this eventually got rid of my vibration.

I even thought I had an axle problem.

Rogue runs like crazy smooth new now! Scary, too good to be true fix for me.

I was so happy I did 4 drain in fill within 2 months. For 90% new fluid in transmission.

But the first drain really cured and made a difference. One is fine really.

Then do as please....every oil change? til happy..... or be done with it.

Update if you can. I would be curious of your results. :dblthumb:

and the culprit is bad cv joint on the passenger side...one would think a brand new cv wouldnt go in 6 months...but thats what it was...never have i heard a cv make that kinda noise, sounds exactly like a wheelbearing

So is that an inner or outer cv joint? Since it was a relatively recent change out, had you replaced the entire axle or just the joint?

The funny thing is that all my vibrations started on the right side passenger side.

When the boot was leaking, I beg the dealership to change the right axle, since I was paying like around $300 for the repair. I forget.

But they said I only needed the boot repair.

Trust me I was not happy since they going in there and I just wanted to get it over it.

But I just let then do the darn boot.

Soon after, I was getting this vibration around that same area.

I was pissed because I wanted the axle changed and thought it was the reason for this shaking/vibration.

I was not a HAPPY camper. But I was resigned in having to pay for this future expensive repair.

After a little research, I came across the Honda site I was able to cure the vibration.

oh yeah, my drivers boot failed like a few months later.

In the end, my vehicle drives like new.

Still I have the sinking feeling of the CVT imploding, nut that's 100,000 miles away. Maybe longer since I did the cvt drain and fill while others never did the whole time.
