Hey Guys

I currently have a bad vibration on my 2002 qx4. It has 200k km.

The Vibration start at about 60kmhr and is worse at about 80kmhr. It seems to smooth out a little at 110kmhr.
When going 5-10kmhr (parking speeds) you can hear a clicking noise that sounds like a bad CV joint. (but its not because they were just replaced last week)

I have already replaced the following parts last week because they needed to be anyway;

New Controll Arms
Ball joints
Wheel Bearings
Tie Rod + Ends
Sway Bar endlinks
Both Cvjoints and axel units
Struts and shocks
Brakes

I am not sure what is left that could be causing this vibration? Drive shaft U Joints maybe? The vibration seems to change a bit depeneding what 4 wheel drive mode you have it in. I really need to get this fixed so any help would be awesome!

It sounds like it could possibly be your front driveshaft. Try taking it off and going for a drive. See if that makes any difference.

Thanks for the reply,

How would the front drive shaft cause this when its in rear wheel drive?
How difficult is it to remove the front driveshaft?

Thanks

Had a similar problem a few years ago. Turned out to be a failing (seizing) U-joint in the rear shaft.
Replaced the shaft, problem gone.

The front driveshaft turns all the time while driving, even when you're in 2 wheel drive. Mine caused a significant vibration between 80-100km/h.

The driveshaft is pretty easy to remove. There are four bolts on each end of the driveshaft.

I had a front end vibration, pulling the front shaft solved the issue. Is it safe to keep it out for a while as long as I don't engage the 4 wheel drive?

I'll be curious to know the results if you try remove the front shaft. I'm also having a vibration issue with my 01 pathfinder at the moment. Have had the tyres replaced, wheel alignment and balance done but it's still there.

I can feel it up through the seats from 90-120km/h.

removing the front drive shaft is just a diagnostic move. My vibration is still there with or without it installed.

Hey NICO,

I hope everyone is doing well!

I have an 2001 Infiniti QX4 with just over 220,000 km.

I am also experiencing a vibration problem when applying my brakes, it gets very obvious when braking around 60 km/h and worsens when you get faster especially on the highway.

I have changed both the front rotars and rear drums, but this problem still appears to be evident. I actually changed the front disc rotars last week thinking the old ones were warped, but it still did not solve the problem so assumed it was from the rear drums, but after changing the drums yesterday it did not make a difference.

The vibration can be felt on the brake pedal, floorboards, and steering wheel, seems to be coming from the front end of the car.

I have a few assumptions which I am hoping if anyone has experience or would know a solution to share some insights please =D!

my assumptions:
- front rotars were defective, as vibrations existed even after new disc rotars were replaced
- suspension
- tires unbalanced
- a buddy mentioned it could be something from the bushings?

Please let me know if you would need any more information to give a more accurate diagnosis

Found the problem causing this virbation. Broken U joint on the front drive shaft!
