90 240SX

This is the original motor with 181,000 miles. It runs great, but I get the annoying vibration when the car decelerates. I don't get it all the time, it mainly happens in 3rd between 2700-3000 rpm and on freeway speed when I have to let off the gas.

It feels like it either coming from the transmission or a brake is dragging. I do need a new clutch, as a bearing is making a lot of noise on idle. Its also making a grinding noise (not always) in reverse. I think a caliper is dragging and causing that, as I drained the differential and found no metal.

Check the U- joints in the drive shaft. That usually causes vibration.

Did you ever fix this, mine does the same but it is around 2500 rpms, in every gear if I listen for it, but mainly in 4th, it is crazy loud.

unless i didnt look at them close enough it seems like the u-joints and not made to be replaced in that driveshaft. please correct me if im wrong. I have replaced everything in the rearend of this car. subframe bushings every control arm bushing springs and shocks and yes even the differential. still a clunk coming out of first and sometimes second. its annoying.

They are replaceable. You gotta heat them with a torch and use a punch and hammer. There a pain but they come out.

Sounds as it could be a caliper on some seriously worn rotors. When i got my first 240 it did this upon braking and my first thought as i was reading this is that your brake rotors are warped. Check the rotors and calipers. I fixed my problem by disconnecting the speed limiter, please don't ask because i have no idea. I have yet to figure it out myself and it has been some years. I disconnected the speed limiter and went on a test run at about 120 or so i decided yeah it worked and the speed limiter was not working i started to brake and at around 70mph i expected the shimy and did not come all the way to stop no shimy at all. I figure maybe the ABS was acting up and without the speed sensor the ABS can not function and it goes off completly that was my explanation for the shake going away, then i realized this car does not have ABS. I have no clue how this fixed the problem, but it did. If all else fails try this. My first idea would be the rotors are out of round or really badly worn check them first.
