I got a viscous lsd with my sr20 for my s13, I am tring to install it and I noticed that it has a even 5 bolt patern for the half shaft insted of the 3 sets of 2 bolts, also has a lot larger fins that stick out a little ways on the bottom of it. Dose any one know if this is also a s13 diff and if I can just swap out the half shaft flange from my stock open diff?

Damn that sucks. You need one with the 6 bolt per axel pattern. The one you got is from the wrong year.

You can replace the output shafts with those that have the correct pattern.

With any J30 vlsd install on a S13 you'll need to take the back cover off of your open diff and swap it on the VLSD you have. (The j30 vlsd has only 2 bolts on the back cover, the S13 has 4 bolts.)

I don't think using your stock shafts will work because I don't think they are long/short enough.

I would be probably easier for you to get J30 Axles. There is to different types one with 5 bolt star pattern, and second with 3 sets of 2 bolts.

You would want the older one any J30 prior to 94. think after like 6/94 they went to the 3 sets of 2 bolt pattern like 240sx.

Or get output flanges from 95 and newer J30, so you can use your stock axles from 240sx. But first I would try your 240sx output flanges on the JDM diff, never know it might work.

I'm also not sure if J30 axles are correct length for 240sx, I know they fit the wheel hubs, same spline count and size.

So getting output flanges would be the best thing to do here.

I would go to a junkyard and look for newer J30, they are all VLSD's. It would take some work to get diff out. Afterwards just tapp-out the flanges with hammer, and your good to go. Should not cost more than 40 USD (ballpark figure) might be cheaper. It takes me about 45min at junkyard to drop-out diff, with just hand tools (with out anyones help)

As for diff cover, they are all interchangeable between S13, S14, J30, Q45 just to name a few.

Which diff do you have?or

Look at front 2 mounting holes First one is for S13, second one is for S14 and like 300zx. You can use the second one on S13 but you need the original bolts and rubber grommets/bushings. If you have this one and dont have them, it would be a good idea to get it from the J30.

Hope this helps you out.

I have same diff with 5 bolt output flange, but had to get Q45 diff with axles, because I didn't buy axles when I got my first diff. And it also has a ABS sensor on the pinion (some people say it's longer, but I looked closely at it and it looks to be same length)

I'm running my Q45 VLSD, with mixed 300zx and Q45 axles, so there is many options and possibilities.
