Who was it that said the VH45DE cams are crash hot?

$400 AUD spent on a new grind for the cams is seeing my VH45DE-T with a guarenteed 50+ kw gain! ...

Apparently the standard grind is OK for a turbo setup but very dissappointing for NA!

There are a few grinds available for both turbo applications and naturally aspirated ... it is in fact the naturally aspirated grinds that yeild the BIG gains. An extra 90+ kw at flywheel

I have had alot of experience with this camshaft company now and have been running a few sets of their grinds in my other cars without any problems!

well i was told 50 rwkw gain with turbo application and 90 rwkw gain with naturally aspirated setups!

However i believe the NA setup was a pretty intense setup (aftermarket ecu, headers, individual throttle bodies, etc ... so obviously the cams were holding it back! So as always when you remove the biggest restriction in a setup you get the biggest gain!

So yes i would expect 70+ rwhp gain to be a realistic figure. perhaps even a very conservative estimate of the power gain! I will know of the gains with turbo application as soon as i get the cams back and the 850cc injectors in!

Like i said ... the grinds are $400 AUD ... $100 / cam ... billets are available also for more money

So assuming you were stock other than the cams (stock intake and stuff like that) you think that it would do 50-70HP?

We could probably play with the ECU to make it work right...

Not sure why you'd need to mess with ECU, since it'll adjust (and has a pretty broad range of adjustment).

new cams will totally change the engine's VE throughout most of the rpm range ... you would want to check the afr's

sounds very nice and makes me want to keep the beasty Q I built up and another 40rwhp would certainly raise the bar for me and my car finally breaking the 14 sec ET barrier. Please do tells us what you got or let us know how to purchase one of those bad a$$ cams you got grinded on over there.

well the regrinds are the cheap option at $400 AUD

some people question regrinds but they are generally people who have no personal experience with them!

I believe billets are around double the price.

Deane's website doesnt list the grinds for the VH45DE engine however i have spoken to him in length about the VH45 profiles and 1UZFE and i am just passing on this information!

Here is the website anyway!

Grinds to suit every form of motorsport. Rally, Street, Track, etc

Do you reckon he might make vernier pulleys? My cams should (hopefully) be done this week, but be nice to have some adjustment.

I with Jeff...

I have done so much work on the Fuel pump, Water Pump, Alternator, Rear struts actuators and so on it would be nice to do some work on my Q45a that's not maintaince.

It will ba a month or 2 I'm ready to buy...However I'm most instrested.

So what will the cost be 300.00,400.00 ??

Yes $400 AUD for regrinds!

However those with runaround Q45's this probably wont suit you as it requires sending the cams to AUS and then sent back!

The process is relatively quick (under a week + freight time) and for the price ... the power gain is very impressive!!!!

Yes, some documented results would be real nice.

What does it do to normal/daily drive-ability?

May be mentioned above, but how "involved" is pulling the cams?

I dont think pulling the cams is terrible..... Removing the valve covers, and probably the upper front cover to release the chain..... The hard part IMO would be make sure its put back in absolutely perfect......

The thing that comes to my mind isthe tuning....

If this is true I have a green 94 in the back yard for parts. I would pull the cams from it and ship for the grind.

Do we have to be concerned the the condition of the cams?

If a group buy is possible I am down.

Cams dont really wear down that much, they may have scoring lines... However if theyre being ground, as long as theyre not totally toast (youd know if they were) they should work.

I am yet to test my VH45 cams ...

I can only go off the results from my other car and what dean has told me!

The idle became rather grumpy in my other car and boost came on about 800 rpm earlier with a gain of about 10-15% over the power at the time. But the big gain i think was the torque! It felt like there was power on tap through out the entire rev range!

Yes tuning may be an issue for you guys running standard ECU. I'm not sure if you's can get remapped or what??

The cams can usually be built up if they are worn down. I took my cam from my other car to them with one of the lobes worn right down and they were able to build it back up no worries. That place is about a 5min drive from me so its very tempting to get it done...
