hello, starting to do research into this swap with my friend, and i had a few questions about it. were currently looking around the local salvage yards for a q45 donor, and i was wondering if you can just use the auto transmission that comes with the vh45. everyone always makes custom adapters or hybrid transmissions, but would it be possible to just rock the auto? i would think you could, but i havent seen anybody do it. this would be going into an s13 if that matters. i could also use some info on the diff and driveshaft. i would figure that we just need a custom made driveshaft, correct? as well as a stronger diff, since our s13 has the factory open diff still. thanks much for the help.

Check out http://www.mazworx.com They have a kit for dropping the VH45DE into an S13. It includes the motor mounts, a driveshaft, and an adapter plate to use either the stock 240 transmission or a Z32 transmission and a couple other necessary parts

ive looked through the site already, a lot of nice stuff, and we might buy a wiring harness from them. but the point of this build is to do it as cheaply as possible, which is why i need to know if the factory auto transmission can be utilized. dont get me wrong, i would love to have that kit, but money is limited, so we'll be sourcing most things from salvaged cars.

A guy in Aus did it into a Z32 with the standard Q45 transmission and a SAW kit.

if you do the wiring right there is no reason it should not work.just start with an auto chassis and go from there, do not use a 5spd car.

then you have one hell of a wiring nightmare.trust me on this one...start with an auto chassis else you'll hate yourself.

Why not just use the 5spd that you already have then?

well, were trying to spend the least amount of money we can, and to do that, wouldnt we need an adapter plate and a flywheel spacer? fabbing that ourselves is a no go, so we would have to pay someone to do it.

It comes down to time vs. money though. If you have a 5spd, the wiring is easier and you get on the road faster, but you have to spend a few hundred more bucks. Personally, I'd go for the 5spd, but it's up to you.

yeah right now, we have a whole lot more time compared to money, plus i got a local guy thats very good with wiring, so his help should speed things up a little.

the other main question is the diff. will the stock open diff on the 240 work? should we get it welded up or swap it for something else?

for the headache involved in converting your 5spd car to auto specs just from a wiring standpoint you'd be better off modding the stock ka 5spd like i did for use behind the vh.

I don't see any reason the stock rear end wouldn't work, what is it, an R180? R200?
