Well for one, I think thousands is a little much. I'd be surprised if you could sell more than 100. You still have a wiring job to do and the fact that it's a major endeavor would turn many people off, even if it were pretty simple.
That being said, I don't think it is physically possible to make a crossmember that doesn't require modifying the stock oil pan, and doesn't ruin the front suspension geometry. The only setup that could possibly work would be a V-style crossmember (like the one found on the S197 Mustang) which would require a mounting setup at the bottom of the firewall (custom and difficult). This would possibly make removing the trans by itself impossible, and there would be an extremely tight fit between the crossmember braces and the headers. Also, the crossmemeber would need to be strong enough up front to not only hold the weight of the motor but the lateral stress placed on it by the lower control arms, which at the same time would need to mount at the exact same level that they did stock (read: higher then the bottom of the crossmember seeing as it will now sit lower). Otherwise, you will ruin your front suspension geometry, negating all the benefits of a lighter front end. And after all that, the front suspension will need to stay above a certain height or else you will have a 4L oil pan set up as a plow, not a good quality on a motor that eats bearings when it's dry.
