The power of the Search button. VH forum.

Granted he did start a month before I but very few others are doing this at the moment. We have less then 35 guys worldwide listed with a build of a VH vehicle other then Q.

Well, I still didn't see anyone mentioning where they got the z32 5speed adaptor plate. Anyone got a link to someone selling them? I want to get going on the project, but I'm not going to touch it till I have the plates in hand...

Haha, first off, most of these guys don't post on here anymore. This thread is a year and a half old.

Second, where are you stationed? Just had to ask, due to the @navy.mil email. I'm out in Lemoore, CA ;)

Just post up what you need in here man. We could always use another big thread about VH swaps.

So what are you having problems with?

You know I bet if one of us fabbed up a new cross member to where you could leave the VH a front sump and have it sit low enough to where you don't have to cut the hood, thousands could be made. My VH is still sitting on a stand while I try to get my other z up and running then I'm going to start the hard work of making it work in my 2+2.

Well for one, I think thousands is a little much. I'd be surprised if you could sell more than 100. You still have a wiring job to do and the fact that it's a major endeavor would turn many people off, even if it were pretty simple.

That being said, I don't think it is physically possible to make a crossmember that doesn't require modifying the stock oil pan, and doesn't ruin the front suspension geometry. The only setup that could possibly work would be a V-style crossmember (like the one found on the S197 Mustang) which would require a mounting setup at the bottom of the firewall (custom and difficult). This would possibly make removing the trans by itself impossible, and there would be an extremely tight fit between the crossmember braces and the headers. Also, the crossmemeber would need to be strong enough up front to not only hold the weight of the motor but the lateral stress placed on it by the lower control arms, which at the same time would need to mount at the exact same level that they did stock (read: higher then the bottom of the crossmember seeing as it will now sit lower). Otherwise, you will ruin your front suspension geometry, negating all the benefits of a lighter front end. And after all that, the front suspension will need to stay above a certain height or else you will have a 4L oil pan set up as a plow, not a good quality on a motor that eats bearings when it's dry.

@craigztoyz

I am also in Austin and picked up my 93 N/A slicktop for a VH45 swap

Think you could email me with some pointers or anyplace in town you found helpful during the swap?
