I know that this question has been asked but I am going to ask again. Can a low wear VH45DE be rebuild? What I mean is can the cylinders be honed to induce a crosshatch pattern for proper ring seating? Can the pistons be re-ringed and the head re-built? The reason I ask is I have seen a number of Porsche 911 owners who have done this very thing on engines with Nikasil and Ausil cylinders.

You've got me curious, why would you rebuild a low wear engine?

Sure but the cost of new parts and the technical knowledge and the measuring expertise to select the correct parts. It's not like a US engine were you may only have 2 sizes of parts.

You may have to check with all 165 dealers to find what you need or most will have to come from Japan.

If swapping and R&R ing a Japanese low mile take out runs $5000, I would expect you could get one rebuilt to as new specs for $8-10,000 installed.

You don't want to even go near a plated bore with a hone.. you'll end up sleeving the block with steel liners or getting them replated..
